How To Stick to a Diet

The holidays are just around the corner. With yummy treats on every table during the months of November and December, it can be harder than ever to stick to diets and exercise regularly. That doesn’t mean you need to commit yourself to taking out your pants with the elastic waistband, though. Simply take some tips from Ryan Smith, a health enthusiast from the state of Kentucky.

Set Realistic Expectations

You might be tempted to say you aren’t going to have a single ounce of sugar or alcohol during the holiday season, but that’s simply not a realistic goal. As the holiday party invites start rolling in and your favorite restaurants are releasing the tastiest winter treats, it will become harder and harder to stick to your goal. Allowing yourself to have a treat from time to time doesn’t mean you’ve failed at dieting, as long as you can do it in moderation.

Keep the Unhealthy Foods Away From Your Home

When it comes to setting those realistic expectations, that means being realistic about your own kitchen as well. Some people are great at avoiding treats even when they’re in the house. Others aren’t. If you’re someone who will eat all of your favorite holiday cookies if you keep them in your kitchen, don’t keep them there. Instead, only eat them when you’re at a party or having a special dessert at a restaurant. Removing temptation from your own home will help you to stay on track.

Take Healthy Snacks With You

Do you know the employee breakroom always has donuts or cookies around the holidays? Are you certain that your child’s holiday party will have nothing but sweets? If you don’t want to be tempted at every corner, keep healthy snacks with you. Cranberries and nuts have a holiday feel to them but don’t have all the extra calories.

Whether you want to stick to your diet for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any other holiday, all it takes is a bit of knowledge and some willpower. Ryan Smith has more tips and tricks for people in Lexington KY and anywhere else!
