Northern Westchester’s Best New Art Gallery to Open Sixth Exhibition

CB Gallery, Katonah’s cutting-edge contemporary art gallery, is pleased to announce its next exhibition by local Mt. Kisco resident, Carol Greenan Bouyoucos.

“Wild By Nature,” is a show comprised primarily of Bouyoucos new prints.  Her digital process involves photographing plants in nature and then re-configurating them on her computer into fantastical patterns of color and light providing a whole new way to appreciate flora and fauna.  “The natural world is the theme of my work, and I have spent a fair amount of time ‘micro-dosing’ in it!” Bouyoucos says, “I think beauty and the protection of beautiful moments are healing and vital in the current environmental social climate.  In these new works, I am incorporating images on film overlays to partially mask the underlying subject, asking the viewer to look more closely as if through a microscope.  This work explores the relationship of illusion and reality in nature and it’s ever-changing borderlines,” she added.

“I always wanted to be an artist,” Bouyoucas explains.  “Growing up in Ohio and attending school at the University of Michigan’s School of Art & Design in Ann Arbor, I desperately wanted to master photography but was impatient with the logistical challenges.  The spark happened once I realized what I could accomplish digitally.  I love the immediacy of the transformation, but it’s a constant challenge to use the technology to enhance nature and not dominate it,” said Bouyoucas.

Bouyouscos draws much of her inspiration from two rare botanical illustrations – “The Temple of Flora” by Robert John Thorton and “Cabinet of Natural Curiosities” by Albertus Seba as she has always been drawn to the fantastical and imaginative uses of flora and fauna in any discipline.

After a brief stint in Chicago, Bouyoucos moved to New York City to work in design firms.  “Taking classes at the New School really got me immersed in creating interesting things with cameras and photo-shop” she said, “and the Starn Twins were doing wild things with photography in the 80’s.”  After living in New York City for 10 years, Bouyoucos moved to Westchester County where she currently resides.   Her work has appeared in several publications and she has shown locally for the past 18 years and participated in shows at the New Britain Museum of American Art in Connecticut and the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts in Providence.

“I’m honored to work with Carol on this exhibit for the next show,” said owner Christopher Brescia. “Carol has not only re-invented the concept of botanicals but she continues to impress in magical ways.”  Her work is guaranteed to delight and engage clients and visitors to the gallery and provide a new and exciting ways for collectors to bring nature into their home.”

In addition to showcasing Carol’s work, CB Gallery will have a floral environment installed courtesy of Wild Fig Floral.  “I am beyond thrilled we have a flower shop in Katonah and so lucky the owner, Nicole Wilder, has agreed to install a living concept into the gallery”

CB Gallery will begin previews for Wild By Nature on October 16th and will host an opening reception on Saturday, October 19th to coincide with the enormously popular Katonah Art Stroll from 5:00 – 8:00pm at 23 Valley Rd., Katonah, NY.   Live music by Reid Gerken and refreshments will be served.
