Casting For a New Prison Movie

As long if you haven’t been in Orange is the new Black

The Hudson Valley Film Commission (HVFC) has been flooded with requests since a casting call went out to area women who have three free days and would love to be in a major movie —  and, oh yeah, spend time in jail.

Those chosen — and there are more than 1,200 applicants at the moment —  will get paid for the work. Best of all, no acting experience is required. You do, however, have to be at least 18 years old and never appeared as an extra or actor in “Orange is the New Black.”

Laurent Rejto with the Hudson Valley Film Commission said the major motion picture needs at least 50 women of all races and ages to serve as prisoners. The film will begin production in March, mostly in Ulster County.

Interested parties should send an email with a photo and resume to [email protected] , Rejto said.

The secret project is one of some 30 films or TV shows filming or scheduled to be filmed in the area in the coming months and features an “illustrious cast,” though no details could be revealed.

Don’t worry, men. You, too, will get your turn. Ironically, HVFC said they may be doing a casting call for male prisoners as they are hoping to land another film that deals with a prison for men.

The boom in area filming is due to recent legislation that allows film and television production companies to receive the same tax credits for filming in the Hudson Valley as in New York City.
