This Will Be Your Decade

The 2010s may have been a decade to remember for all the right reasons, or one to remember for all the wrong reasons. Now that we’ve passed into the roaring twenties, it doesn’t matter so much anymore. You and everyone else on the earth have been given an opportunity to start things anew, to cast off the mistakes of the past — or to stop living off the accomplishments achieved earlier in the decade. So you’ve got a decision to make: is this going to be your decade, or will it pass you by? We all know the answer — the first one! Below, we take a look at a few tips that’ll guide you in the right direction.

Dreaming Big

If you want to achieve great things, then you need to dream big. As such, the first task of the new year could be to get rid of that small-minded mentality, and elevate your thinking. It’s a cliche to say that everything is possible, but like most cliches, it’s true. Have a think about the best possible shape the forthcoming decade could take, and you’ll be thinking in the right way. And once you’ve dreamed the dream, it’s all about pushing forward and making it come true.

Freeing Yourself

The main reason that people fail to achieve their goals isn’t that they lack the talent or drive; it’s that there are things that drag them down, things that prevent them from being the best that they can be. Everyone has something like this in their lives. It’s important to remember, however, that everything can be overcome. If you’ve been experiencing stress & anxiety, for example, then there are steps you can take to get yourself to a healthier state of mind. If it’s your physical condition that’s holding you back, then look at making improvements — this could be by changing your diet, finding an activity you enjoy, or subtly changing your lifestyle. Whatever is preventing you from living your best life, work on getting rid of them in the first part of the year.

Fostering Community

When we think of having a great decade, we usually think in terms of what we’ll achieve on an individual basis. However, while that’ll bring you happiness, it won’t make you complete. That can only come from living with a sense of community. Moving forward, why not look at volunteering your time to an organization that needs help? Remember, it’s great if you’re doing well, but it’s so much better if the people around you are feeling equally thrived.

Career Happiness

Finally, take a look at your career. We know, we know — you’d rather not think about it, but it does play such a significant role in your life, and thus your happiness, that it’s worthwhile ensuring that it’s working for you. A new decade brings new possibilities, so perhaps this is the time to look at working towards a promotion, or finding a new career altogether? It takes time to figure these things out, but it’s worth it.
