Paul Schrader’s New Film First Reformed Starring Ethan Hawke & Amanda Seyfried To Screen At Jacob Burns Film Center

On Thursday, May 3rd Jacob Burns Film Center (Pleasantville, NY) will be pre-screening Paul Schrader’s new film First Reformed , which is set for release in the US on May 18th, 2018.

The film stars Ethan Hawke, Amanda Seyfried, Cedric Kyles, Michael Gaston, Victoria Hill and is one of the most celebrated films out of Venice and Toronto Film Festivals.

Following the screening will be a Q&A with filmmaker Paul Schrader & Reverend Dale Southorn moderated by JBFC Board President Janet Maslin.

First Reformed centers around Reverend Ernst Toller (Ethan Hawke) a solitary, middle-aged parish pastor at a small Dutch Reform church on the cusp of celebrating its 250th anniversary. Once a stop on the Underground Railroad, the church is now a tourist attraction catering to a dwindling congregation, eclipsed by its nearby parent church, Abundant Life, with its state-of-the-art facilities and 5,000-strong flock. When a pregnant parishioner (Amanda Seyfried) asks Reverend Toller to counsel her husband, a radical environmentalist, the clergyman finds himself plunged into his own tormented past and equally despairing future, as he searches for an act of redemption.

Paul Schrader is a screenwriter, director and film critic whose past credits include Mishima (1985), Raging Bull (1980), American Gigolo(1980), Taxi Driver (1976), and more recently, Dog Eat Dog (2016) and Dying of the Light (2014).

Reverend Dale Southorn is the Pastor at the Presbyterian Church of Mt. Kisco. Southorn served as an advisor to Paul Schrader on the making of First Reformed.
