OrangeTheory Fitness Mt Kisco Review and Giveaway

Orangetheory is a class-based workout, not a traditional gym

I am so excited that Orange Theory has opened a Northern Westchester location at 222 East Main Street
Mount Kisco, NY.  I had been hearing about it for years, but let’s face it if a work out is inconvenient to get to chances are you aren’t going.

Orangetheory Fitness is an interval-based workout that uses heart rate monitors to encourage you to push yourself (based on your own fitness level) and includes three different components – interval training on the treadmill, indoor rowing and weight room floor exercises.  Orangetheory Fitness is a great 60 minute workout that will push you at least it pushed me .  I have been hearing about OTF and seeing them pop up everywhere so needless to say I was curious. I looked up their website and it turns out that your first class is free.

Orangetheory Fitness is a one-of-a-kind workout broken into intervals of cardiovascular and strength training, using a variety of equipment including treadmills, rowing, TRX straps, and free weights .

There is an OTF Near You

There are 364 different workouts. A new workout routine everyday.  But interestingly enough every OrangeTheoryFitness location ans there at 570 locations,
has the same workout. It can be really intense yet they can adjust it to any level of fitness  Whether you are in NY or Florida  Indiana, or Tel Aviv.

The coaches are super motivating. they give you a little bit of a pep talk before you enter the studio, the playlists have been killer.  Its intense! Yet the workout can be tailored for any level .It’s a quick hour the Class goes by so fast.

It’s all about the After Born

You are given a heart rate monitor,  that tracks your heart rate and calories burned plus your EPOC .  Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (or EPOC), Orangetheory’s heart rate monitored training is designed to maintain a target zone that stimulates metabolism and increases energy. They call it the after burn. I burned almost 600 calories in each class I have taken.  I really like the numbers  It allows you to compete with yourself.

At Orangetheory Fitness, every person wears a heart rate monitor that tracks their stats on a giant monitor. The goal is to spend 12 to 20 minutes at 84 percent of your max heart rate or higher in the orange zone.

As far as pricing goes, for a studio class, it is somewhat reasonable.  It’s less expensive than SoulCycle and quite frankly I burned more calories at OrangeTheory.

I love the Numbers

Tracking every move, every calorie, every heart beat, apparently makes sweating more palatable — and perhaps even more fun. It does for me.

It’s All About The Afterburn

The greatest thing about Orange Theory Fitness is the after-burn.   By keeping your heart rate in the Orange and Red zone you continue to burn calories for up to 36 hours.

  1. Orange zone: 84-91 percent of your maximum heart-rate. This is your uncomfortable zone, which creates EPOC. You should stay in this zone for 12 to 20 minutes of your workout.
  2. Red zone: 92-100 percent of your maximum heart-rate. This is where you empty your tank.

Your body is still exerting so much energy and you’re taking in so much oxygen to repair your body and repair your muscles that you continue to burn calories for about 24 to 36 hours post-workout.
