If you’re looking for something very Westchester to do this weekend, how about world-class horses, gorgeous cars, shopping, food and a day in North Salem horse country?
The Old Salem Farm September Horse Shows are officially underway, bringing two weeks of international equestrian competition to North Salem September 8–13 and September 15–20.
But this Sunday, September 13, may be the day to go.
Old Salem Farm is combining horsepower of two very different kinds with the Hollow Brook Horsepower Car Show from 10 a.m.–3 p.m., alongside some of the biggest show-jumping action of the week.
Horses Meet Horsepower
The Hollow Brook Horsepower Car Show will feature an impressive collection of automobiles spanning more than seven decades—from European grand tourers and classic British sports cars to American performance legends and modern collectibles.
And yes, you get to admire them with actual horses competing in the background. Very North Salem.
Sunday also brings the first week’s biggest equestrian event: the $200,000 4 Blue Diamond Cup*, featuring an international field of riders.
Among the athletes entered for the September shows are eight-time Olympian Rodrigo Pessoa, fellow Olympians Lucy Davis Kennedy, Will Simpson and Luis Fernando Larrazabal, plus familiar Grand Prix names including Georgina Bloomberg, Molly Ashe Cawley, Brianne Goutal-Marteau, Devin Ryan and Brian Moggre.
Bring the Family
You definitely don’t have to know the difference between a hunter and a jumper to enjoy Old Salem.
On Saturday and Sunday, there will be face painting and pony rides from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. On Sunday, North Salem’s Blue Barn Rescue will also bring along some of its petting-zoo animals.
Add in Boutique Row, pop-up vendors, food and the gorgeous setting, and this is as much a fall Westchester outing as it is a horse show.
Competition begins at 8 a.m. daily, with classes taking place simultaneously in three rings.
If you caught the Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows earlier this year, you already know why I love this event—it’s world-class competition with a very Westchester, country-chic vibe.
