IN CELEBRATION, THERE WILL BE AN OUTDOOR SOCIAL DISTANCE RECEPTION AT THE INSTALLATION FROM 3-5PM ON SUNDAY AUGUST 23RD, 2020. RAIN DATE TBD
The project is a collaboration between Ristorante Lucia and the artist Vanessa H. Smith. Ristorante Lucia has been owned by the Diana Family for over fourteen years and has been a weekly dining spot for many Bedford families. “We love being a part of the fabric of this community,” Cristina Diana says. “The property next door to our restaurant had been abandoned for about 10 years before we bought it about four years ago.” “Vanessa asked us if she could paint it and make it beautiful before it comes down.”
“I love Ristorante Lucia” says Smith, “I’m here at least once a week and I was thrilled when they said I could paint the little house next door and Bedford ACE Hardware was kind enough to donate $1500 worth of paint.”
Vanessa H. Smith is an accomplished painter with over 25 solo and group shows, including a successful show at the CB Gallery, Katonah, N.Y., April 2019. Describing her inspiration for this project, Smith explains, “The idea of impermanence and death relate to our times of pandemic and protest. I am thinking about this as I paint. The installation is a sending off, a tribute…”
“Once again Vanessa continues to amaze with eternal optimism and ethereal talent that is so magical to me,” explained CB Gallery owner Christopher Brescia. “She has taken her unique sensibility and applied it to a house that has been in decay in Bedford Village for quite some time – and turned into a delightful folly. So come on down on Sunday. Order up some delicious Lucia pizza and have a bottle of wine!” What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon!”
