Improve your handwriting as an adult: 3 tips!

Handwriting isn’t as important as it used to be in the old days. In our current digital world writing letters are rare. People don’t do it quite as often. And if they do it, their handwriting isn’t as it used to be. Experts are worried that our handwriting will become worse over the following years. Even while handwriting notes or letters will stay important. Not only because of emotional reasons but also because of the cognitive benefits.
Do you consider yourself a good writer? And are you very capable to write neatly? Or do you find it hard to put down letters in an orderly manner? Are other people even capable to understand your scribbles? No? Then it’s time to improve your handwriting. And yes, this is even possible when you’re an adult. Here are 3 tips.

1.      Use high-quality pens

Before you start improving your handwriting it’s important to buy some high-quality pens. You can’t write without the right tools. Even at school, there were recommendations on what kind of pen you should use. It’s clear that the tool you use is as important as the way you handle it. Buy a cross ballpoint pen set and you’re sure that you have the right tool to start this with.

2.      Back to the basics

Over the years you have learned some techniques that aren’t as great as the ones you learned at school. That’s why it’s important to go back to the basics and renew your knowledge about writing. What have you learned at school? What were the things you were needed to do before writing? How were the letters formed?

If you find this difficult, you can also buy some books which encourage writing for young ones. They have tips and forms to help young children write the letters as they should. It does seem a bit strange to buy this as an adult, but it can certainly help you refresh your memory and skills. It’s not about getting it perfect. Perfect isn’t necessary. It’s about learning, progressing, and eventually improving. Don’t be too hard on yourself and just enjoy the things you’ve already learned. Step by step you’ll improve your own handwriting. Just take your time.

3.      Write about things you enjoy

Improving your handwriting is difficult when you don’t enjoy it. That’s why it’s important to write about things you enjoy and like. Just take an empty notebook and write down your favorite quotes (by using the skills you have just learned) or your favorite song lyrics. This way you are doing something fun while improving your handwriting skills. Two birds, one stone.
