City Center Summer Concert Series Thursdays from July 11 to September 12, 2019

Celebrating its fifth anniversary concert season, City Center continues its offering of unique and compelling musical talent from all corners of the music map.  This summer’s program of FREE concerts features Grammy winner Keyon Harrold, the genre defying group Phony Ppl, and Charley Crockett up from Austin, Texas.  Also appearing, Tuba Skinny from New Orleans, The Chris Bergson Band featuring Ellis Hooks (who returns later in the summer with his own band), the remarkable 17 year old jazz singer Alexis Marrast, plus The Rad TradsSammy Rae and the Friends and Endea Owens.       

Concerts are Thursdays from 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. shine (in the courtyard on City Place in downtown White Plains) or rain (up the escalator to the 3rd floor lobby near the White Plains Performing Arts Center).

Thursday, July 11
Sammy Rae and The Friends – A huge band with a dynamic leading lady and hit single “Kick it to me”.

Thursday, July 18
Alexi Morrast – Taking a night off from a summer tour with Wynton Marsalis, this once-in-a-generation vocal talent has already performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center and with icons Freddy Cole and Barry Harris.

Thursday, July 25
Charley Crockett – Lays down a trail of almost everything we associate with old time American music that in his hands seems startlingly fresh; on the eve of his Newport Folk Festival debut.

Thursday, August 1
Phony Ppl – “Ready for the world” says Rolling Stone Magazine.  Their live performances are legendary.

Thursday, August 8
Chris Bergson Band – MOJO Magazine #1 Blues CD 2018 and “one of the most inventive songwriters in modern Blues” – All Music Guide.

Thursday, August 15
The Rad Trads – The Band meets Miles Davis; they fill the stage with killer grooves and four rotating lead vocalists.

Thursday, August 22
Endea Owens – Jazz for a boozy backyard barbecue; her upcoming CD is aptly called Feel Good Music.

Thursday, August 29
Tuba Skinny – An eight-piece band direct from their year-round performances in the clubs and on the streets of the French Quarter.

Thursday, September 5
Ellis Hooks – Could fill the shoes of a Sam Cooke or Otis Redding.

Thursday, September 12
Keyon Harrold – Part of the White Plains Jazzfest, this is a breathtaking and transcendent  trumpeter and bandleader who draws on his youth in Ferguson, his studies in the straight ahead jazz tradition, and his work on over a hundred R & B, gospel and blues, hip-hop, and jazz recordings.
