New Fall Book Preview

One book to look for is Karen Treiger’s “My Soul is Filled with Joy: A Holocaust Story,” featured in the Hamptons collection this October just in time for the Hamptons Film Festival. Karen tells the story of her parents-in-law survival during World War II as they hid from the Nazis in the woods in Poland and the help they received by locals. It is an emotional story of love, hope, and determination set against a period of tragedy. Perfectly timed as well for the welcome of a New Year in the Jewish calendar.

“I was inspired to write this book because of Sam and Esther,” said Treiger. “For a Polish Jew, the Holocaust was the trial to meet all trials. Sam and Esther rose to the occasion – over

and over again. I realized the contrast between their lives in Poland and my life in Seattle was beyond what I could fathom. Then, first Esther and then Sam left us, as are the other Holocaust survivors. I asked, now who will tell the stories? We will tell them – in a new way – through our own experiences and our own stories.”
