A Guide to Syncing Music to Your iPhone

There are lots of ways to keep your music in sync across your devices. Here is a guide to help you sync music to iPhone.

Do you use an iPhone? It’s likely you do, given how Apple has a large chunk of the American market.

If you’re using an iPhone, you know how crisp and enjoyable music is when using it. But if your main playlist is in another device, you might find it tedious to manually transfer them to your iPhone. But without technical expertise, it can be next to impossible.

Don’t get discouraged just yet.

Our guide focuses on how to sync music to iPhone devices. This includes several different ways like Apple music sync. Read on and learn how:

1. Sync Playlist to iPhone Using Mac Catalina

The macOS Catalina bids its farewell to iTunes on the Mac. That means syncing music using the iPhone will involve Finder and the Music App. The good news is that the process is like the ones used in macOS Mojave and earlier.

To start, open the Finder app and plug your iPhone into your Mac computer. In the Finder’s sidebar, you’ll see the iPhone. Click on it, and if it’s your first time plugging in your iPhone, confirm that you Trust the device when prompted.

Once done, pick the content type you want to sync by clicking on the relevant tab. It doesn’t apply if you’re using the iCloud Music Library. Regardless, pick the things you want to sync, which can include your entire library.

If you do, this includes your playlists and ratings, and other related metadata. Otherwise, you can pick songs from specific artists, albums, or playlists. This is a great choice if you’re running out of space on your iPhone.

You can choose Artists, Albums, Genres, and Playlists by scrolling down. Check the box for all the applicable choices. Click Apply once you’re done and it should start syncing.

2. Sync Music from Mac to iPhone With Apple Music

Subscribing to Apple Music is $9.99 each month, giving you access to its library of 50 million tracks. It also grants access to the iTunes Music Library. That means all devices you use to play music on will be in sync, which includes playlists and albums.

This service allows you to sync Apple Music to iTunes by default. But if it isn’t, you need to check a few things with your Apple devices. First, ensure that both your Mac and iPhone run using the latest iOS and macOS version.

If they are, check whether all your devices use the same Apple ID. It should be the same ID used when subscribing to Apple Music. Check your internet connection if all devices share the same Apple ID.

Sync Library

In case all the fixes mentioned above don’t solve your issue, the Sync Library might not be active. To turn it on, go to your iPhone and open Settings and pick Music. Pick the Sync Library option, and if it isn’t in sync on your Mac, open the Music or iTunes app.

From the menu at the top, pick Preferences. Click on the General tab since it shows you the option to turn on the Sync Library. Once activated, all your purchased music content from various apps and services will sync together across different devices.

3. Sync iTunes Library to iCloud and iPhone

Apple offers iTunes Match, a subscription service that costs $24.99 annually. This allows you to upload music from across various devices to the cloud. You can stream and download all your tracks on any of your devices.

iTunes Match is an ideal service if your Mac has rare albums you want to play on your iPhone. It’s especially useful if it isn’t available on Apple Music. The good news is that, like Apple Music, you can Sync Music on all devices logged in with the same Apple ID.

You can do this by going to your Settings and choosing Music on your iPhone. If your music isn’t in sync, use the steps on iCloud music sync using Apple Music.

4. Sync Music from Mac to iPhone Using Wi-Fi and iTunes

iTunes used to be Apple’s means of syncing devices. This allowed you to sync your devices using a Wi-Fi connection. First, connect your iPhone into your Mac with a USB cable and open iTunes.

Look at the top of the window and pick the iPhone as it appears. Click the left-hand column and pick Summary. From the options, choose Sync with this device over Wi-Fi and click Apply.

With this option enabled, your iPhone and Mac will sync automatically. It’s possible as long as both devices are within the same Wi-Fi network. It also happens when you plug in your iPhone to your Mac while the iTunes is open.

5. Sync Music to iPhone Using Mac Catalina and Wi-Fi

You need not connect with the Mac to sync playlists to iPhone and get music. It’s possible using your Wi-Fi connection, which is great when you don’t have the right USB cable in hand later on. But to set it up, you need your cable first.

Use the Finder app in macOS Catalina to sync your Mac and iPhone together. Once done, set your devices to sync using the Wi-Fi network moving forward. It’s only applicable if your Mac isn’t running Catalina.

To do this, once you connect your iPhone and Mac, open Finder and pick the iPhone from the list. Select the “Show this device when on WiFi” option and click Apply. This will make the two devices sync over WiFi from now on.
