A Big Deal for Westchester: Jacob Burns Film Center Joins Inaugural Art House New York Cinema Week

Something exciting is happening right in our backyard.

The Jacob Burns Film Center is joining the first-ever Art House New York Cinema Week, a citywide celebration of independent movie theaters happening March 20–26, 2026.

More than 30 independent cinemas across New York are participating—but the Burns is one of the only theaters representing the suburbs, bringing a little Westchester flair to a citywide celebration of film.

If you’ve ever been to the Burns, you already know it’s more than a movie theater. It’s a community hub where film lovers gather to watch, learn, and talk about great movies.

Independent cinemas are essential third spaces for discovery, conversation, and shared cultural experiences,” said Executive Director Mary Jo Ziesel.

What’s Happening During Cinema Week

The Burns is celebrating with special screenings, filmmaker Q&As, and fun perks for movie lovers.

Why This Matters

Art House New York Cinema Week celebrates the independent theaters that keep film culture alive, bringing communities together to experience stories collectively.

And we’re lucky that one of the best art house theaters in the region is right here in Pleasantville.
