Fresh from an Emmy nomination for his work as a writer on Saturday Night Live, Colin Jost returns to The Ridgefield Playhouse with two stand-up shows on Sunday, August 15 at 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm, hosted by comedian Yamaneika Saunders. Part of the Barts Tree Service Comedy Series, the shows will be outside at The Playhouse Tent. A writer for SNL since 2005, Jost has co-anchored “Weekend Update” since 2014 and has served as head-writer for 7 seasons. An established comedian, actor, and writer, Jost has won four Writers Guild Awards, a Peabody Award, and has been nominated for 11 Emmy Awards for his writing on “SNL.” He even co-hosted the Primetime Emmy Awards himself in 2018. His signature brand of sharp, shrewd comedy can be found in his 2020 memoir “A Very Punchable Face” which made the New York Times Bestseller List. Kicking off the night is Yamaneika Saunders. In early 2015, Yamaneika co-starred in Oxygen’s Funny Girls, a docu series following six female comedians through their everyday lives. Previously Yamaneika was a series regular on Comedy Central’s animated online series In Security. Yamaneika has been a guest star on shows such as The Jim Gaffigan Show, Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, Comedy Knockout and Friends of the People. Her voiceover work can be heard on Inside Amy Schumer. A former panelist on The Meredith Vieira Show, Yamaneika’s stand-up has been featured on NBC’s Last Comic Standing and AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Live.
A seasoned stand-up performer, Jost first made a name for himself appearing on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and “John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show.” In addition to cracking up late-night audiences, he kept his skills sharp writing columns for The New Yorker’s Shouts and Murmurs section and New York Magazine. When he joined SNL in 2005, he was one of the youngest ever writing recruits on the show. Jost co-hosted the special editions of “Weekend Update” that aired on MSNBC during the 2016 Republican and Democratic National Conventions, as well as the primetime “Weekend Update Summer Edition” in 2017. Additionally, Jost wrote and starred in the Paramount/Netflix film “Staten Island Summer,” based on his days as a lifeguard.
