What:

Thirty-five of the jazz world’s top musicians to gather to celebrate the life and music of legendary jazz trumpeter Lew Soloff.  Best known as the trumpet player for Blood, Sweat & Tears and his memorable solo of their 1969 hit, “Spinning Wheel”, he was an integral part of the band from 1968 to 1973.

A key player in the New York jazz scene since the early 1960s, Lew was associated with numerous top musicians during his career — many of them will be gathering together to share their love and talent.

In addition to musical guests and personal recollections from program participants, the tribute will also feature a visual montage of Lew’s life and career.

Why:

For close to 20 years, Lew was part of the Jazz Arts Faculty at Manhattan School of Music (MSM). The goal of MSM is to create an endowed scholarship in Lew Soloff’s name, serving to permanently recognize this extraordinary musician’s indelible  contributions while also supporting young musicians.
