Summer Camp for Future Spielbergs

Know a kid or teen that wants to be the next Spielberg?  Look no further than Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC), a nonprofit cultural arts center and one of the most successful suburban film houses in the country, is offering a variety of summer camps and programs that will give kids ages 8-18 an unrivaled experience in filmmaking.  The film house is known to often have celebrity actor and filmmaker appearances including esteemed board members like Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Mark Harris and many more.

The renowned faculty will lead and instruct small groups of 10 in the JBFC’s state-of-the-art production spaces with professional equipment.  All sessions are held at the Media Arts Lab with occasional visits to the JBFC Theater, just down the street.

Teens can make collaborative movies this summer through the popular program, “Creators’ Co-op.” Over three weeks, groups pitch, script, shoot, and edit an original narrative short. Week one is an immersive experience with instruction in writing, acting for the camera, and directing. During weeks two and three, the Lab is home base as student production crews shoot and edit independently with times available for mentorship and feedback. Kids grades 3-8 can create animated, webs series and “Short Films by Short People.” These introductory digital video, software and production courses will teach every step of writing, directing, shooting, and editing.   Young filmmakers will also practice acting for the camera, and see their original ideas go from the page to the screen.  More details are available HERE
