Spring Cleaning And Organizing Ideas For This Month

Now that spring is right around the corner it is time for many of us to take a look at our home. Now and again, our home needs a deep clean and spruce up; and today we want to guide you through how to do this.

Spring cleaning is a huge task and can be taken on over several days or weeks, but here are just a few of the things you should consider doing in your home this year to clean and organize it.

Rearrange your furniture

The first change you could consider at home this week is a change in furniture. If you’ve been staring at the same four walls for a long time now, it is a good idea to make a change and try something new. Move your sofa to the opposite side of the room, change the way your chairs and table sit, and see what a difference it can make to the atmosphere in the room. There are lots of easy ways for you to rearrange your rooms and it can be a fun activity for the weekend.

Consider renovation

One larger project you can do is consider a renovation either inside or outside the house this year. You can consider looking at some house plans with photos and gather inspiration about extensions or renovations you could do. There are so many fun ideas such as an open plan kitchen diner, a conservatory, or an outdoor lounge area to bring to your home this year. Making big changes to your home can of course take a lot of time and money so it is important to come up with a good budget for this and be aware of the time involved.

Clean the windows

One simple spring cleaning job you have to do this spring is cleaning the windows both inside and out. Unless you have a window cleaner who cleans your exterior windows, you’ll either need to grab a ladder or use a magnetic window cleaning tool from the inside. Make sure when cleaning the windows to use a toothbrush to scrub any mold away from the rims, and consider cleaning in 3 distinct steps:

  1. Use warm soapy water to clean the windows with a cloth.
  2. Use water to rinse the windows with a sponge
  3. Use a window cleaning spray and a squeegee to make the windows sparkle.

Organize your kitchen cupboards

One of the biggest jobs you can consider doing in spring is organizing and cleaning out your kitchen cupboards. When we refer to the kitchen cupboards here we mean the utensils, pans, and cutlery cupboards – not the pantry. It is all too easy for us to get carried away over the year collecting items for the kitchen and it doesn’t take long for the cupboards to get clogged and confusing. Take a few hours one afternoon to empty every cupboard in the kitchen and look to rearrange them. You can start by cleaning ten cupboards with disinfectant spray. Then take a look at your items and decide what to keep and what to throw away. Now, it is time to start putting things back. Consider height and stackable items such as pans, bowls and Tupperware and make the most of vertical space where you can. Ensure that you leave items you use often at the front of the cupboards for easy access.

Reclaim floor space

It is so important to consider reclaiming the floor space of your home in spring. Let’s face it; we all gather random boxes and items on the floors of our homes, and for homes, with little storage, it seems impossible not to use the floor as a storage area for your things. However, when items are left on the floor they clutter up space and they can cause a tripping hazard. Consider clearing away anything you can, and reclaim some floor space this year.

Clear your clothes

Clothing is an easy commodity to hoard at home. It is all too easy for us to end up hoarding items of clothing for so long that we end up having ‘nothing’ to wear simply because we can’t see underneath the clutter. Take the time this week to clear out your wardrobe as much as you can and make some much-needed space in your wardrobe. When clearing out old clothes consider how often you are likely to wear an item, make sure to try things on to make sure they fit and consider getting rid of items you don’t 100% love. There are so many reasons we keep clothes we don’t love, but honestly – why would you? Be ruthless and donate clothes to charity this spring to breathe some fresh air back into your wardrobe.

Color coordinate your wardrobe

One simple way to make a difference to your wardrobe this week is to color coordinate it and help organize it. Look at the items you have hung up in your wardrobe and consider how you can hang them in color order. From red all the way to purple; you can hang your clothes in color order and it will give you a better understanding of what you have. Once you see the clothes you have in each color it will be easier for you to pick out outfits each day and in the long term, it will improve your fashion sense.

Dust those hard to reach spots

Now is the ideal time to get out those small vacuum attachments, the duster, and polish, and a bucket with water for those hard to reach spots. From the ceiling to the skirting boards; your home gets dusty very quickly and a lot of small parts of the home get clogged up. Spring is the perfect time to light up those small nooks and crannies you usually can’t see, and you can get rid of dust to make your home cleaner and healthier for everyone.

Bleach your seals

The seals around your windows panes, doors, bath, and sink can become moldy over time due to condensation and moisture frequently building up in these spots. Black mold can easily grow in these places and over time it will spread to other parts of the house and can irritate the chest of those in your household. Now is the time to grab a toothbrush and mold and mildew spray and start to scrub away the mold for good. You can spray the areas and leave it to work for 10 minutes or so before scrubbing away the mold and leaving you with beautiful clean seals.

Soak the showerhead

It is scary how easily the showerhead can have a build-up of mold that isn’t seen by us. It is important every few weeks to soak your shower head and get rid of the mold to ensure that your shower continues to work effectively and that you get everything you need out of it. Take the time now to grab a ziplock bag and fill it halfway with water and bleach. Place your showerhead inside the bag and leave this for a few hours or overnight. Pour the water down the sink and then run the shower for a few minutes to get rid of excess bleach.

Deep clean carpets

One of the things you can do this spring to help clean the home is deep clean the carpets with a steam cleaner. Use a steam cleaner and go room to room, getting rid of deeply ingrained muck from your carpets, and be left with stunning clean carpets.
