On Tuesday, March 13, Friends of John Jay Homestead will conclude their 2018 Scholars Lecture Series, Ways of Being a Hero, when Nathaniel Philbrick presents
Valiant Ambition: George Washington, Benedict Arnold and the Fate of the American Revolution.
Philbrick gives a challenging and sympathetic interpretation of the relationship between George Washington and Benedict Arnold, who was a hero, brilliant general and close Washington confidant before he became a traitor. Valiant Ambition has won the George Washington Book Prize.
The 2018 Scholars Lecture Series is organized by the Scholars Committee of Friends of John Jay Homestead, whose members include Susan Allport, Karen and David Bacon, Michaela and Skip Beitzel, Sheila and John Bernson, Kathleen and Andrew Brenner, Joyce and Gary Corrigan, Mary and Jeff Cox, Vanessa Diebold, Ambassador April H. Saunders, Nancy Nygreen, George Hunter Roberts, Martin J. Rosen, Esq. , Timothy P. Schieffelin, Norman Selby, John J. Stockbridge , Frances Train, Melissa Vail (Chair) and Caroline and John Walker.
All lectures will be held in the Ballroom at John Jay Homestead State Historic Site at 7:00pm, registration beginning at 6:30pm with light refreshments. A book signing will follow the lecture. Tickets are $25; $20 for members. Reservations are recommended.
