Folk music icon Janis Ian wrote her first hit, “Society’s Child” at the age of 14, focused on an interracial couple in an era when tempers flared at even the mention of such a relationship. She won a Grammy for her audiobook of the same title some 50 years later. But most of us remember her for her ‘70s radio hit and Grammy Award-winning song, “At Seventeen.” Livingston Taylor, brother of James and best known for his Top 40 hits (“I Will Be In Love with You” and “Boatman”), last played The Ridgefield Playhouse with Karla Bonoff and now returns with Janis Ian on Wednesday, August 14 at 8pm. This evening is part of the Pepsi Rock Series powered by Xfinity and Doyle Coffin Architecture Singer Songwriter Series and is sponsored by Bruce Bennett Nissan. For tickets: ($49.50) call or visit the box office, 203-438-5795 or go online at ridgefieldplayhouse.org. The Ridgefield Playhouse is a non-profit performing arts center located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street, Ridgefield, CT.
