“It Was 50 Years Ago Today” Brings A Star-Studded Tribute to the Beatles to Life at The Ridgefield Playhouse

What do Todd Rundgren, Christopher Cross, Jason Scheff (Chicago), Badfinger (ft. Joey Molland), and Denny Laine (Wings, The Moody Blues) all have in common? Their love for The Beatles! An all-star band is coming to The Ridgefield Playhouse for a tribute to John, Paul, George, and Ringo and their enduring and beloved music. It Was 50 Years Ago Today: A Tribute To The Beatles these five great artists performing their own hits and selections from Rubber Soul and Revolver, two of the greatest 50 albums of all time as ranked by Rolling Stone.  These five artists will put their own spin on classics like “Eleanor Rigby,” “In My Life,” and “Tomorrow Never Knows,” but they are bringing their own hits too, like Rundgren’s “I Saw The Light,” Cross’s “Sailing,” Badfinger’s “Baby Blue,” Chicago and Scheff’s “25 or 6 to 4” and The Moody Blues and Laine’s “Nights In White Satin.” Beatle-mania is madder than ever, with the release of the instant classic documentary “Get Back” rekindling America’s love affair with the lads from Liverpool that began way back in 1964. Now 2022 brings a gathering of musical masterminds, coming together for an unforgettable night of classic rock and roll at The Ridgefield Playhouse! VIP meet and greet packages are available in limited quantity. Part of the Pepsi Rock Series Driven by North American Motor Car. The media sponsor for this event is WPLR.

With five world-renowned musicians in their own right, It Was 50 Years Ago Today: A Tribute to the Beatles is no mere cover band: it’s a group who were inspired by The Beatles to make their own music from the earliest days. In Denny Laine’s case, The Moody Blues were true contemporaries of The Beatles and even toured with the group in their earliest days back in England. As a founding member of Paul McCartney & Wings, Laine played a key role in shaping the solo career of the great Sir Paul as he evolved beyond The Beatles into the creative and genre-bending solo artist that he remains today. In Denny Laine’s own words, “the thought of performing some of their classic songs with such a revered cast on this tour will bring back not only those moments in time but also fond memories as a member of Wings. I trust that we will pay due credit to their timeless legacy by bringing back that music to everyone who joins us for this special ride.”

As a new generation of music lovers emerges, The Beatles legacy shows no signs of fading away. Whether you swooned at Shea Stadium in 1965 or were entranced by the mysterious sounds of “Norwegian Wood” on a Spotify playlist in 2021, It Was 50 Years Ago Today: A Tribute To The Beatles promises a night to remember full of music that has stood the test of time.
