My Patti loving heart is bursting with excitement at the news that the Sondheim classic “Company” is coming back to Broadway with none other than my Queen, the incandescent Patti LuPone starring as Joanne.
The reimagined revival, with a female protagonist instead of the original male lead opens on March 22 2020, Stephen Sondheim’s 90th Birthday at the Jacobs Theatre.
The original production won six Tony Awards, including Best New Musical, in 1971, and has been revived twice.
Earlier this year “Company” closed in London after a successful West End run.
The London run also starred Patti LuPone as the acerbic Joanne, for which she won an Olivier Award as Best Supporting Actress in a Musical.
Watching Patti sing “The Ladies Who Lunch” is, alone, worth the price of admission.
