Everything Wine (& Liquor) Is New Again in Katonah

Community-Based Wine Store Renovates and Reimagines for a New Era

If you’ve strolled through downtown Katonah lately, you might’ve noticed a familiar spot looking fresher than ever. The beloved Katonah Wine & Liquor, a fixture in the community for more than 50 years, just got a serious glow-up.

Housed in the town’s old train station, the store has always had charm — but after decades of service, it was ready for a refresh. New owner Catherine Blazek, who recently traded real estate listings for wine lists, led the charge with a stunning August renovation that’s transformed the space. Gone are the carpet and dark wood paneling from the 1970s. In their place: sleek slate-gray paint, updated wood racking, modern lighting, and a bright, open layout that feels totally new yet still very Katonah.

“Westchester has a lot of distinct towns – what really sets Katonah apart is its vibrant downtown filled with wonderful shops and places to meet, all giving it a true community feel,” says Blazek. “We’re thrilled to be in the heart of it. Our mission is to be a hub for everyone who enjoys wine and spirits.”

The renovation even leveled the raised front window area to make room for something exciting — in-store tastings! Expect regular “Wines-day” events on Wednesdays, where guests can sample and learn about new finds.

Helping shape the store’s expanding selection is Bill “Tish” Tisherman, a longtime wine writer and local expert who joined the team in June. Together, Blazek and Tisherman are curating an impressive collection that balances crowd-pleasing classics with adventurous picks. Expect to see more year-round rosés, chillable reds, and global Sauvignon Blancs, alongside trend-forward bottles like orange wines and saké.

The store’s motto, “Curated for Community,” says it all. Katonah Wine & Liquor is becoming a true neighborhood hub — sponsoring the K5K Road & Trail Race, participating in the Katonah Art Walk, and even partnering with The Reading Room for the Westchester Book Festival this November. Look for fun “book-and-bottle” pairings leading up to the event, plus a “Book Club Hall of Fame” that celebrates the perfect wine pairings for lively literary discussions.
