CB GALLERY IN KATONAH TO PRESENT BEDFORD CORNERS ARTIST DAVID SCHWITTEK’S SOLO SHOW ENTITLED “INSTANT KARMA” FROM JUNE 15 TO JULY 16, 2022

CB Gallery to show Bedford Corners Artist David Schwittek’s Polaroid photography show “Instant Karma” with an Artist’s Reception Saturday July 9th from 5 – 8pm.

CB Gallery, Katonah’s top contemporary art gallery, is pleased to announce its next exhibition entitled “Instant Karma” by Bedford Corners Artist, David Schwittek. The exhibit of well over a hundred Polaroid images will run from June 15 to July 16, 2022 with an Artists reception on Saturday July 9th from 5-8pm. The show will also be up for the Katonah Art Walk on Saturday June 23.

“Instant Karma” is contemporary twist on traditional Polaroid imagery. Some of the photo’s are more straightforward but a lot of them are manipulated in fun ways by being painted during the development process or stitched on or even torched.

Bedford Corners based, multidisciplinary artist, designer and filmmaker David Schwittek has been taking photographs since he was eight years old but it wasn’t until he was studying Computer Science at SUNY New Paltz that he realized he could communicate better through creating Art than any other way. “It was such a revelation to me, I went on to get an MFA in Design & Technology from Parsons School of Design,” explains Schwittek, “I’m inspired by a lot of things around me but the specific inspiration for the CB Gallery Polaroid show was the pace of the expression these photographs allowed me by taking some small, good ideas and blending them with the mundane to achieve an emergent narrative that has a delightful rhythm.” Currently on Faculty in the Art Department at Lehman College in the Bronx, Schwittek takes great pride in this aspect of his work. “Teaching in the poorest congressional district in the United States, I work with students who have been marginalized and condescended to by society their whole lives and I try to inspire them by making them aware of the fact that each of them has a unique voice and they can and must own their ideas.” Schwittek currently lives with his wife and two kids in Bedford Corners.

“Once again, the level of talent in the immediate area abounds!” say CB Gallery Owner, Christopher Brescia, “Every facet of David’s work is outstanding but I personally have a deep affection for Polaroid film and the way it has been used in the contemporary art world by everyone from Hockney to Warhol has always thrilled me.” “In this show,” continues Brescia, “David has taken the art form to a new level,” adding, “The show is going to have the look and feel of an installation piece but the individual images are for sale and I can’t wait to show them.”

“Instant Karma” will be up for the Katonah Art Walk on June 25th and there will be a separate Artists reception on Saturday July 9 from 5-8pm.

About CB Gallery

Named 2019’s Best New Art Gallery in Westchester Magazine, Christopher Brescia opened the CB Gallery space in January 2019 in the charming downtown of Katonah, NY. The mission of the gallery is to offer Westchester and Connecticut residents as well as visitors and week-enders living in the community, something new and different in terms of contemporary artwork unlike anything else being offered in the area by showcasing emerging, established and under recognized Artists.   All Artist exhibitions feature paintings, photography, drawings, and sculpture depending on the show.

Brescia believes art truly enhances your living space and gives a home life, personality and soul and that just because you have a traditional house, does not mean you have to own traditional artwork!  In addition, CB Gallery offers in-home art consultation appointments to evaluate your current collection and make recommendations on existing and new art purchases.
