Music, Art, Film and Flowers in Bloom
Caramoor’s spring season is here. Spring highlights include a creatively curated showcase for the emerging young singers of Schwab Vocal Rising Stars; new music by the Sleeping Giant composers collective from the resident Argus Quartet; the return of celebrated chamber series Edward Arron & Friends; violin duets by Pamela Frank and Christian Tetzlaff; a sold-out set from roots outfit Darlingside; the brass of the Gotham Kings, presented in collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center; and a special cabaret benefit with Melissa Errico. The Jacob Burns Film Center hosts the Westchester Jewish Film Festival takes place March 16- April 2. Features include 38 engaging, thought-provoking, and entertaining films—a robust mix of documentaries and narratives, along with all eight episodes of False Flag, one of the latest in Israel’s brilliant streak of political thrillers made for TV. The Katonah Art Museum is pleased to announce its spring exhibition, Picturing Love: Photography’s Pursuit of Intimacy, on view from March 19 to June 25, 2017. The exhibition looks at the history of intimacy in photography from the nineteenth century to the present moment, underscoring how changes in camera technology as well as social norms, among other factors, impact – with powerful and often disarming frankness – how love looks today. When Jay Gould and his children owned Lyndhurst, the mansion was constantly bedecked with flowers from the vast Lyndhurst greenhouses. To recreate this, Lyndhurst Mansion will open its 2017 season of tours with an extravagant spring flower show featuring Westchester’s finest florists displaying lavish arrangements throughout the rooms of the mansion. Visitors may either take guided tours of the historic home or simply walk through at their leisure to see the various floral displays. This provides future brides, planners and hostesses the opportunity to sample some of the best floral craft available in Westchester County.
