A Better Understanding of California Medicare Enrollment Qualifications

Have you reached retirement age and need to enroll in Medicaid in California? Maybe you need to visit ScentMed in southern California because you’re having issues and you need to meet with your ear, nose, and throat specialist. Or maybe you’ve been struggling to maintain good health and need regular checkups and regular care to improve the quality of your life.

Remember, we all want to flourish through healthy living. Some people start eating healthy without going on a diet when they first retire because they know it will help preserve their health. But they also need actual checkups from a real doctor. Now that they no longer have insurance from their job, Medicare is important so they have to sign up correctly in California to get the ball rolling.

With that said, we will help you better understand the California Medicare enrollment qualifications by sharing poignant and valuable information. We’ll also tell you other important information too.

How Do I Know If I Qualify for Medicare Enrollment in California?

Believe it or not, not everyone is going to qualify for Medicare once they reach the age of 65. So it’s important to know the ins and outs of this system and understand the qualifying specifications. You do not want to go through the entire enrollment process only to find out that you aren’t even qualified. It would be much better off knowing this information ahead of time before you begin.

For starters, you definitely have to be 65 years or older at a minimum unless there are special circumstances that we’ll share later. You or your significant other (your spouse) must have worked for 10 years or 40 quarters or more in a job that was Medicare covered.

Next, you must be 65 years or older. But it’s possible to have only worked in a Medicare-covered employment situation for 30 to 39 quarters. Or, you have reached the age of 65 or older and you and your spouse worked for a Medicare-covered employee for 0-29 quarters.

Obviously, the difference in the length of your work and your Medicare options are going to vary depending on how long you worked in the system. If you worked 40 quarters or longer you’re going to get the best coverage, whereas if you worked 0 to 29 years your coverage is going to be lesser depending on the length of time and other potential factors.

You can also qualify for Medicare coverage if you are below the age of 65 and are currently on Social Security Disability Insurance with a disability. Or, if you are receiving railroad retirement disability payments for a total of 24 months you will qualify as well.

In another situation, if you were diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease also known as ALS and you have received SSDI for one month, you will qualify for Medicaid. Or if you are on dialysis or waiting for a transplant and have permanent kidney failure, you can qualify for Medicaid in this situation too.
