Funny how life works sometimes.
Just yesterday, I was talking to my husband about his kidney transplant. I can’t believe it’s already been three years. Three years. How does time move that fast?
We were sitting there talking about everything we went through, how scary it was at the time, and how grateful we are that things worked out the way they did. For anyone who doesn’t know, I turned out to be a direct match for him, which still feels kind of unbelievable when I think about it.
Then, literally right after that conversation, Jennifer Flood sent me a clip from Newsmax.
I’m sharing the clip below because it perfectly captures the heart behind what the Flood Sisters are doing and why their mission matters so much.
And suddenly everything came full circle.
A few weeks earlier, I had met up with the Flood Sisters, who live and work right here in Westchester, for one of those totally unplanned brainstorming lunches at The Tavern at Bedford Post. You know the kind where you think you’re just grabbing lunch and suddenly you’re deep in conversation, talking about life, purpose, and how to help people.
The sisters told me about their dad needing a kidney transplant and how neither of them was a match for him. Instead of letting that heartbreak stop them, it inspired them to create an extraordinary foundation dedicated to helping connect people with living donors and bringing awareness to the transplant process.
Honestly, hearing their story hit me hard because I know exactly what that fear feels like.
Somewhere between lunch and conversation, I mentioned my friend Ed Henry, who is also an organ donor himself. I just had this feeling their story would resonate with him.
Next thing I know, the Flood Sisters are on Newsmax sharing their mission.
And the crazy part? After the segment aired, people actually reached out offering to get tested to become kidney donors.
That’s the part that got me emotional.
Because you never know when one conversation, one introduction, or one TV segment is going to actually change somebody’s life.
So when Jennifer sent me that clip yesterday, right after I had been talking about my husband’s transplant, it honestly felt like one of those little signs from the universe reminding me how connected everything really is.
If you or someone you know wants more information about kidney donation, becoming a living donor, or supporting the Flood Sisters’ incredible mission, feel free to reach out to me through StacyKnows or connect directly with the Flood Sisters.
And definitely stay tuned because we’re already talking about an upcoming fundraiser here in Westchester that I have a feeling is going to be something really special. More details coming soon.
