No Job Opportunities After College? Start A Business!

The lack of job opportunities for recent college grads is very much in the public eye, and when Austin Schatz, the proud possessor of a degree in Organizational Communication, returned home in December, he was aware of the problem.  But he also had an idea.

Having spent four years in a college town, he knew well the convenience of online food ordering, though it was mostly limited to pizza and Chinese food. When he returned to his home in Westchester County, he was struck with the idea that there was a market for upscale food delivery. He rallied a few friends and Westchester Select Delivery was born.

Headquartered in Tarrytown, the marketing and delivery service has signed almost a dozen restaurants and will be offering delivery of lunch and dinner to your doorstep beginning Monday May 4.

“I know there’s a market for this,” said CEO Schatz, “We have talked to similar businesses all over the country and we think there are people in offices who are tired of sandwiches and commuters too tired to cook who will be happy to know about us.”

“Working with people you like makes the day go quickly,” explains Dan Schatz, Austin’s brother and one of the five partners. After three months of operating in a spare bedroom, Westchester Select Delivery moved to an office park in Tarrytown, the center of their current delivery area. Four of the five young men, friends since high school, have been spending their days designing flyers, setting up the website and signing restaurants.

On launch day, Westchester Select made possible delivery from local restaurants including

Ichi Richi in Elmsford, River City Grille and Il Sorriso Ristorante Italiano in Irvington and . The Huddle in Sleepy Hollow.

I asked Dylan Robinson of Westchester Select Delivery if they had plans for expansion. He answered,   Yes we do. Austin Schatz is out every day in several towns to talk with restaurant owners to bring on new restaurant partners. Were at a rate of about 2 more each week and we’re looking to push that pace higher as we continue to move forward. We’re currently in Tarrytown, Elmsford, Irvington, and Sleepy Hollow. But can service Hastings-on-Hudson,  White Plains, Ardsley,  and some parts of Ossining and Briarcliff Manor. We hope to have partners in all of these areas and possibly Purchase, Scarsdale, and Pleasantville.
