You’ve been dating a while, and things are starting to get serious. Suddenly, you start to get an inkling that your man’s about to take things to the next level with a proposal. Whether you’re just relying on intuition or whether he’s inadvertently led you down a path of clues, if you suspect there’s a very important question coming your way, here are a few things you should do.
Don’t freak out
It’s easy to get so excited, nervous, and anxious about the thought of an impending proposal, but remember: You’re not supposed to know anything is coming! Even though you may soon be wearing diamonds on a very important finger and entering a new stage of your lives together, you don’t want to blow his surprise. He’s probably stressing about planning that special moment, and you don’t want to let on that you suspect anything that is coming.
Revel in it!
In that time between when you suspect something is happening and when he actually asks, take the time to really soak in that special time. Your life is about to change dramatically! While you have a little secret, take the time to appreciate and enjoy it.
Give him a bit of a break
When he’s planning your proposal, he’s probably also going through a full gamut of emotions. He’s making a big decision, too! Plus, he’s got the added pressure of creating the kind of proposal that will be something you’ll be proud to recount for years to come (because you know you will). That’s a lot of pressure! He’s also busy trying to pick out a ring you’ll love and keeping the biggest secret of his life. If your partner is acting a little strange, more distant, or stressed than usual and you suspect it’s because a proposal is coming, cut him some slack. And if he seems to be a little tighter with his money during this time, bear in mind he’s just made a very large purchase! Netflix and a pizza make a great date night.
Make your hands pretty!
Finally, if you know that a proposal is coming, it’s probably a good idea to get a manicure! It may sound silly, but think about it: You’re going to want to Snapchat and tweet the heck out of that news, right? Not only that, but when you start sharing the news with friends, family, and co-workers, the first thing they’re going to say is, “let me see the ring!” You’ll want to make sure your hands and nails look their best.
Getting a proposal is one of the best moments in most women’s lives. Although there’s no way for sure to know when that moment is coming, if you suspect you’re about to be asked a very important question, there are a few things you can do to ensure you don’t spoil the surprise and that that special moment is totally Insta-worthy!
