Gus’s Still Hot Still The Best

Gus's Gorgonzola Salad

gus;s Last night I dined at Gus’s on Halstead Avenue inHarrison NY.  Yes Gus’s. From the outside Gus’s looks like that cute neighborhood joint that’s been around forever. It’s so far from new, really retro, and of course really delicious. Opened in 1931.   It is your classic Northeastern seafood restaurant. This place has been around for generations and for good reason.

No reservations are taken. I warn you its busy. There is usually a little bit of wait.   But that’s okay, it gives you time to enjoy an ample cocktail at the bar that has been in the restaurant since the 1930’s

Don’t come here for fancy, come for fresh fish, simply done and leave happy.

My go to meal … Steamers  followed by the Gorgonzola salad, by the way the salad is so good Gwyenth Paltrow, put the recipe in her cookbook and the Swordfish blackened topped with guacamole.   Every meal comes with the best damn coleslaw!

Fresh Seafood along with traditional American fare and Gus’s signature German dishes make Gus’s Seafood a landmark destination throughout Westchester County.

Ernie Kneuer, the grandson of the original Gus, tells me that he expanded the menu to raves when he took over in 2004: “Lobster and prime ribs are our best sellers, but Anne Hathaway always gets the fresh clams.” Next door, he sells a variety of fresh fish, meats, breads, pasta, produce, cheeses and prepared foods, and of course the Gorgonzola Salad so patrons can bring the taste of Gus’s home every day. gusseafood.com
