Blues and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Mavis Staples Returns to the Ridgefield Playhouse Stage on March 12

Mavis Staples is the kind of once-in-a-generation artist whose impact on music and culture would be difficult to overstate. She’s both a Blues and a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer; a civil rights icon; a GRAMMY Award winner; a chart-topping soul, gospel, and R&B pioneer; a National Arts Awards Lifetime Achievement recipient; and a Kennedy Center honoree. She marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., performed at John F. Kennedy’s inauguration, and sang in Barack Obama’s White House. “I’m the messenger,” Staples said on the eve of her 80th birthday in 2019. “That’s my job — it has been for my whole life — and I can’t just give up while the struggle’s still alive. We’ve got more work to do, so I’m going to keep on getting stronger and keep on delivering my message every single day.” Mavis Staples will return to the Ridgefield Playhouse stage on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 7pm as part of the Pepsi Rock Series Driven by North American Motor Car. This evening comes ahead of her incredibly packed year of performing at festivals and amphitheaters across the country and the globe! Her Playhouse performance offers audiences a chance to experience this iconic artist in the intimate setting of a 500-seat theater. Kicking off the evening is GA-20, a dynamic, throwback blues trio who are disciples of the place where traditional blues, country and rock ‘n’ roll intersect. American Songwriter says the band plays “rough and tumble, relentless blues” with “tough, insistent vocals” and “maximum intensity rocking.” Make it a great night out with dinner and a show by visiting TerraSole Wine Bar Ristorante (3 Big Shop Ln, Ridgefield) for dinner the night of the show and enjoy a complimentary glass of house wine with your entrée when you present your tickets!
