Let’s be honest. The fitness world can feel overwhelming. One minute it is all about high intensity workouts and the next it is vibration plates, walking pads, and recovery days.
If you are anything like me, you are probably wondering what actually works and what is just hype.
I recently came across fitness expert Denise Chakoian and she is bringing a refreshing, realistic perspective we all need right now.
Meet the Expert
Denise Chakoian has over 30 years of experience in the fitness world and is the owner of Core Cycle Fitness LaGree in Rhode Island. She has worked with real clients of all ages and fitness levels and focuses on creating routines that are sustainable and effective.
She is also a cancer survivor and a certified Cancer Exercise Specialist, which adds a deeper level of understanding to her approach to health and movement.
What Is In Right Now
Low Impact Strength Training
This is one of the biggest shifts happening right now. Instead of punishing your body, the focus is on building strength in a way that protects your joints and supports long term health.
For women over 40, this is especially important. It is about feeling strong and capable without risking injury.
Soft Cardio
You no longer need to push yourself to exhaustion to see results.
Walking, light cycling, and steady movement are all part of what is being called soft cardio. This approach supports heart health, helps manage stress levels, and is much easier to stay consistent with.
Recovery as Part of the Plan
Recovery is finally getting the attention it deserves.
Rest days, stretching, mobility work, and even breathwork all play a role in how your body responds to exercise. Taking care of your nervous system is just as important as the workout itself.
Functional Fitness
Workouts are shifting away from just looking good and toward moving well.
This means training for balance, posture, and real life movement. It is about being able to do everyday things with ease and confidence.
At Home Fitness That Works
You do not need a full gym to stay in shape.
Simple tools like resistance bands, bodyweight exercises, and even walking pads can create effective workouts that fit into your daily routine.
What Needs a Reality Check
Vibration Plates
They are everywhere right now and yes, they can help with muscle activation and circulation.
But they are not a replacement for strength training or movement. Think of them as an add on, not the main event.
Wearable Tech
Smart watches and fitness trackers can be helpful, but it is easy to get caught up in the numbers.
What matters most is consistency, how you feel, and building habits you can maintain. The data should guide you, not control you.
The Biggest Shift
The most important change in fitness right now is that it is becoming more supportive and less extreme.
It is no longer about pushing yourself to the limit every day. It is about building a routine that helps you feel better, sleep better, and stay strong over time.
My Take
I love this shift.
It feels more realistic, more sustainable, and honestly more enjoyable. At this stage, I am not trying to keep up with intense trends. I want to feel good, stay active, and protect my body for the long run.
This approach just makes sense.
