Live music, vendors, stars, cosplay, RPGs and more!
Gorilla River announced its return to live events with the Catastrophicon Rock n Roll Horror Convention running July 15 at Reid Castle on the campus of Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY.
Catastrophicon is a convention for fans of horror, rock & roll, and pop culture in general including film, comics, music, games, art, books, and other creative outlets. It’s for people looking to build their collections through the joy of discovery, meet kindred spirits and enjoy a great atmosphere. It’s a collector’s show with an edge.
“We’re bringing something new to Westchester,” said Event Producer Dave Hoffman, a Mount Kisco resident. “This is a convention that is heavy on atmosphere and jam-packed with the kinds of things that pop-culture superfans love.”
Fans will enjoy celebrity autographs from stars of movie series including Friday the 13th (Ari Lehman – the first actor to play the iconic Jason), Nightmare on Elm Street (Beatrice Beopple, the actress who played Freddy Kreuger’s mother), The Thing, The Warriors (Thomas G Waites) Night of the Demons (Alex Alexis), Terminator (Brett Azar) and Twin Peaks (Erika Anderson, who also starred in Nightmare on Elm Street Part 5) with more to be announced soon. An entire room of vendors will allow eager fans to discover new comic books, artwork, and collectibles. Cosplay group Amazing Spiderlings will be in attendance – paving the way for anyone who wants to dress up. Vincent Disanti of Womp Stomp Films (Never Hike Alone) will present on a crowdfunding panel. Fans of tabletop role-playing games will get to try their hand at the independently produced Dungeon Born RPG throughout the day. Westchester-based social media app Slasher.tv, and new streaming service Horror-tv.com support the convention.
And perhaps the most exciting part of the day will be an evening live music performance by First Jason, fronted by Lehman, and The Thomas G Waites Projects fronted by Waites.
Reid Castle provides a unique setting for this type of convention. Rather than the typical gymnasium or hotel setting, guests can get in the spirit of entering a fantasy realm when they approach the castle from the outside. Once they get inside, they’ll be immersed in a mansion (where several high-profile TV shows like Time Traveler’s Wife and Gilded Age are filmed) and the halls are reputed to be haunted!
