There were the times when people only sought help from doctors when they got sick or were in mortal danger, but now, preventive health care became a commonplace as people became more informed about their health and the importance of maintaining it. In order to take good care of your health, you have to do some annual checkups and tests and be at peace. Here’s what you can do about it.
Eyesight
You should visit your eye doctor annually because eye exams are not only meant for people with poor eye vision. Eye exams are crucial for finding eye problems in a timely manner, before you feel the consequences. Due to the overuse of smartphones and other gadgets, our eyesight is getting worse each day and no wonder why more and more young people wear cosmetic contact lenses. Once you notice that you’re struggling to look at the computer, or if you’re experiencing headaches often, it can be associated with visual impairment. Therefore, it’s very important to find a reliable optometrist you trust, someone your family, friends or co-workers had contact with. Good communication between you and the doctor is key for your eye health and you should feel comfortable enough to continue with your checkups.
Dental care
Dental examinations are essential because poor oral health can lead not just to many dental problems, but also to other illnesses, like heart disease. You should visit your dentist every six months as this will prevent painful interventions and serious medical problems. During a regular dentist appointment, your dentist carefully examines your mouth and teeth as this will show any changes or signs of cavities or illnesses. You shouldn’t be afraid of the dentist, as you’re not a 5 year old anymore. Therefore, you must do proper oral hygiene to stop tooth decay and stay healthy.
Gynecologist checkup
For women, it’s recommended to visit a gynecologist once a year. Regardless of the fact that you might not be having any problems, it’s important that you book your appointment just to be safe. A regular gynecologist checkup involves the examination of the vaginal canal, the ovaries, and the uterus, and a colonoscopy. It also involves a laboratory exam of the secretory and pap test. Expanded control includes tests for sexually transmitted diseases and tumor markers. For more about women’s health, be sure to visit Woman’s Health Centers
Skin exams
We often notice some unusual brown spots and suspicious moles on our skin, but we don’t follow it up with a visit to the dermatologist. People with fair complexion, bright eyes or freckles and those were prone to sunburn in their childhood are more likely to get melanoma. UVA and UVB rays penetrate the skin to certain depths and damage DNA and tissue. In addition to premature aging and the appearance of wrinkles, this can lead to skin cancer as well. Melanoma is the worst and the most dangerous form of skin cancer. It affects people of all ages, unlike other skin cancer types that only happen to the elderly. It occurs in the form of dark red spots or changes above the level of the skin and can resemble a mole. It starts off as a melanoma, and rarely develops from already existing moles. When advanced, it can metastasize and spread to the skin and internal organs. Melanoma risk factors are usually hereditary, but you can also get it due to high sun exposure and by visiting tanning salons. To lower the risk of getting sunburnt, it’s essential to apply a high-SPF sunscreen before going out and avoid being exposed to the sun between 11am to 16pm. Reapply the sunscreen every two hours just to be safe.
Hopefully, your attitude about preventive health care would encourage others to accept the same behavior and make it a habit. So, take charge of your health on time and don’t be lazy to do all the checkups and tests you need to live a happy life.
