Christopher Brescia, owner of CB Gallery in downtown Katonah, NY is pleased to announce his next show. A collection of paintings by young, emerging local artist Gunnar Magnus artworks entitled “Concrete” will open on May 15th and run through June 29. The show will kick-off with an opening reception on May 18th to coincide with the Katonah Art Stroll.
Twenty-one year old emerging artist Gunnar Magnus knew he wanted to be an artist since he could walk. After spending much of his youth completely immersed in the arts – painting, drawing, sculpting, fencing, classical music training – he stepped away for many years to participate in athletics but always missed the creative expression.
Originally from Harrison, NY the New Canaan, CT based Magnus works are inspired by the processing of raw emotional energy that translates into the healing power of creativity. Magnus explains, “I sort of leave my body and go full autopilot on a piece and then step back and study the image I’ve conjured. I can’t force an image from my brain to canvas- I have to let my eyes and hands interpret on their own as I go, never really thinking.”
It wasn’t until he participated in an outdoor painting collective to benefit the homeless in Union Square subway station that Gunnar began painting full time. “After my first day painting outside, I left a painting at our “outdoor” gallery and got a phone call that an uptown dealer wanted to represent me.” Magnus said, “That is when I checked out of school and went full time artist.”
His work is an amalgamation of street art meets modernism. “I was blown away when he sent me images,” said CB Gallery owner Christopher Brescia. “It immediately took me back to the East Village in the 80s when I lived there as an NYU student, and yet there was this other feeling of seeing something great in a new museum. It’s instantly pop and classic at the same time.”
CB Gallery will begin previews for Gunnar Magnus’ show on May 15th and will host an opening reception on Saturday, May 18th from 5pm to 8pm. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 11am-5pm or by appointment.

About CB Gallery:
Local Westchester resident Christopher Brescia opened the CB Gallery space in January 2019 in the charming downtown of Katonah, NY. The mission of the gallery is to offer Westchester and Connecticut residents as well as visitors and week-enders living in the community, something new and different in terms of contemporary artwork unlike anything else being offered in the area. All artist exhibitions feature paintings, photography, drawings, and sculpture depending on the show. Christopher believes art truly enhances your living space and gives a home life, personality and soul and that just because you have a traditional house, does not mean you have to own traditional artwork. In addition, CB Gallery offers in-home art consultation appointments where he will evaluate your current collection and make recommendations on existing and new art purchases.
