The shape wear industry has boomed over the past several years, reaching more than $800 billion in sales – as women (and men) from teens to 100 wear undergarments (and specially-made pants and shirts) to mask their “problem areas.” Phyllis Jacobson, Owner of Petticoat Lane and Bagshop.com, a retailer frequented by celebrities, politicians and locals alike, just launched the “What Do YOU Want to Suck In?” online quiz, to help customers work with the retailer to choose the shape wear that’s right for their specific body issues and social situation.
“We’ve been selling everything from sexy lingerie with a little extra control to heavy-duty ‘body armor’ to wear under that slinky evening gown,” says Jacobson. The teams at her five retail stores are all specially trained to match the garment to the individual. The web-based assessment prompts prospective customers to express their problem areas and needs. “We’re still all about personal service, but the quiz just helps us recommend the right shape wear, saving the customer time.”
Bagshop’s sales of slips, leggings, bras, panties, and even yoga attire with a little extra “suck” have grown to more than 100 items each week, and the retailer has expanded its shape wear line by 30% over the past year.
On Sunday, November 17th from 1pm to 3pm the Chappaqua store at 66 King Street will be hosting a “What do YOU want to Suck In?” Everyone who comes in for a personal consultation and buys one item receives a free pair of control top pantyhose and a 20% discount on her next purchase.
