Robert Forcelli at the age of 48 is still in tip top shape. The Contenders Club is having its 20th anniversary on April 21, with a boxing event that Rob will be the Main Event fight. Don’t miss it!!!
What is The Contenders Club?
The Contenders Club is a boxing based fitness movement that was created 20 years ago. The company created different divisions for all ages and levels to participate. One division was the white collar boxing events, where the everyday person trains like a boxer for two months and participates in a boxing event to celebrate the hard work and commitment to the goal. Not easy!!! These programs and events are held once to twice a year.
Another division of the Contenders Club is the cardio boxing workouts. Boxing movements set to the beats of the best music out there. People line up 30 minutes prior to just get into these workouts and stack up to north of 100 deep daily.
Other division to the Contenders Club is the private training where we cover everything in fitness. But good luck in getting a session. Fully booked 7 days a week!

Why do you think boxing workouts have become so popular lately?
With my classes being packed wall to wall, Boxing workouts have always been very popular for those on board. Lately, they are becoming more popular because of the press and people now fully understanding the benefits and ultimately getting the results they are looking for in a minimal amount of time they have to dedicate in a day for working out.
Tell me about your classes and what benefits I would get from attending them?
My classes are all boxing based to the best soundtracks to keep your energy up. Punching targets the whole body without you thinking about it, which most people like to do when entering a workout. They don’t want to think but just have fun and sweat. The mere motion of punching is very empowering, releasing great frustration and maximizing all the muscles in the body with just one punch, getting people results. When punching properly, what it does for your waistline with all that twisting motion is second to none.
Have you ever considered opening up your own boxing gym? What would you name it?
I certainly considered opening up my own boxing gym and calling it what else but…..Contenders Club. But, with the rents being so high in the areas of my audience and the stress that comes with all that, I went with the model for 20 years of sub leasing space in existing fitness places. The model has helped the fitness owners and has provided me with the space necessary with no stress for the monthly overhead. Win win that has been a huge success.
What do you teach at Equinox?
At Equinox Armonk I teach 3 different styles of classes. One is a shadow boxing or kickboxing style workout. This workout comes right from my experience as a kickboxer and boxer. Very popular for those who love the drenching sweat. Easy to follow, no choreography to get caught up in. Just punching, kicking and some other sculpting moves to great music. The second style is rounds of cardio on a trampoline with sculpting moves and boxing using free weights. Of course, great music to keep the reps with. The third class is just good old fashioned strength training.
Tell me what Main Event X is?
Main Event X is a platform for boxers to come together and showcase their skills in the ring. These participants are former competitive boxers as well as the everyday soccer mom wanting the rush of being a boxer for the night. There will be woman bouts, kids bouts, and men bouts that evening.
Who will be fighting?
Main Event X will have young men, woman, and former competitive boxers participating. My opponent will be comparable to me in weight and age and experience. We have a few people in mind right now. My vote at this time is a law enforcement tough guy from Jersey. Should be interesting.
What do you do to prepare for a fight?
In order to prepare for a fight, it requires 2-3 months of training, proper eating, and tremendous discipline. Lost 15 lbs in last 7 weeks.
Training: 6 days a week
3 miles a day of running, 15 rounds of boxing training daily, weight training 4 days a week. 3 hours a day of training in total. This is done all while I continue to keep my regular work schedule.
Where does it take place?
April 21,2018
99 Business Park Drive, Armonk NY
Doors open 7:15 for preferred and general admission seating
(Vip 6:00pm for pre party)
Who is it a benefit for?
Firstly, this event is in honor of my dad John Forcelli who just passed a few months ago. He was a huge supporter of my boxing career and boxing events…and everything in life for that matter. His passing inspired me to celebrate 20 years of excellence in the road less travelled fashion…. another fight!!!! Age 48 and feeling great so let’s do it! “One More For Dad”… Second part of greatness for the event is raising money for Sponsors Corners. A drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in Port Jervis, NY. Saving one life at a time.
How did you pick your beneficiary?
Our country is in an opioid epidemic and I have a few people in my life that are supporters of this “big time” battle. I felt Main Event X could help the fight.
