October was Breast Cancer Awareness month and THE GYM of Armonk joined two-time breast cancer survivor and long-time member, Sue Harmon, in support of the American Cancer Society as it commemorated its 100th year, and offered special group fitness classes during the month of October. Proceeds from the THINK PINK classes at THE GYM were raised to benefit The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation, uniting nearly 300 communities and volunteers – one million strong – to help finish the fight against the disease. Furthermore, Escape Spa and Wellness and ProClinix Sports Physical Therapy and Chiropractic Wellness were corporate sponsors as well.
Harmon, who was diagnosed at age 32 and again at 42, now works to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society. Harmon has been the #2 individual fundraiser in the nation for the ACS over those 15 years and has worked tirelessly towards their mission in raising awareness, supporting education, providing patient services and supporting advocacy. Harmon has also served on the ACS’s Board of Advisors and is a long-time friend of Lisa Gagliardi, Group Fitness Director at THE GYM of Armonk.
“Think Pink” month was a great success for TEAM SUE HARMON and THE GYM. Harmon said, “I’d like to thank all of the instructors, staff, members and management of THE GYM for their support of my fundraising efforts and for the very generous $7,500 check towards my $50,000 goal. I am proud to report that together with THE GYM and my donors, I raised over $58,000 for the American Cancer Society, which places me as the #4 fundraiser in the nation! It is THE GYM’s $7,500 check that put me over my goal, and for that I am truly thankful!”
Group fitness classes and complimentary body assessments added to the schedule throughout October in support of the ACS, while DJ Catch1 dropped his beats to help keep everyone moving.
Gagliardi stated, “I am honored to have been a part of this success and want to extend special thanks to Vivian Jonokuchi, Ibeth Eliana, Enid Gomez, Becky Molloy, Karen Leach Sconzo and Patty Palmieri, the Group Fitness Instructors. Special thanks also to DJ Catch 1.”
ProClinix Sports Physical Therapy Chiropratic Wellness PLLC was a proud sponsor and donor of the Sue Harmon Team in the fight against breast cancer. Director, Alan H. Siegel said, “We were grateful; to work with Sue, THE GYM, Escape Spa and all of the participants to help raise significant funds for the American Cancer Society to continue the research in an effort to better understand and treat this illness.”
Renee Palompelli, owner and director of Escape Spa & Wellness, was excited to participate. “Our customers were pleased to participate in this worthy event.”
