CB Gallery to show Bronxville Artist James “Sexer” Rodriguez’s show “Metamorphosis Now” with an Artist’s Reception Saturday July 23rd from 5 – 8pm to coincide with the Katonah Artwalk.
CB Gallery, Katonah’s top contemporary art gallery, is pleased to announce its next exhibition entitled “Metamorphosis Now” by Bronxville Artist, James “Sexer” Rodriguez. The exhibit will feature original paintings by Rodriguez exploring color and transformation and will run from July 20 to August 20, 2022 with an Artists reception on Saturday July 23rd from 5-8pm to coincide with the Katonah Art Walk.
With roots in Graffiti art, “Metamorphosis Now” is a collection of colorful and surreal imagery from the mind of James “Sexer” Rodriguez. Growing up impoverished in the Bronx, it was Rodriguez’s Grandfather, Gregory Marquez, who steered him toward a creative life: “He recognized my talent early enough to buy me my first drafting table and entered me into a contest to have kids Artwork displayed in Gimbels Department store in Manhattan” explains Rodriguez, “But it wasn’t until 1978 when I started noticing local neighborhood graffiti artists in the Bronx like Ban 2, Crash, Mitch 77, Lee Quinonez and Dondi White that I knew I wanted to be a part of the Art world.” Without a lot of creative outlets to explore and the moniker “Sexer” bestowed upon him by Hight School of Art & Design classmates because of his good looks, the graffiti portion of his career was launched. After continuing his studies at The Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons School of Design, Rodriguez became a graphic designer. Describing his current Artwork process Rodriguez says, “Without a doubt graffiti influenced and inspires me as it gives my work an urban art flavor which morphed from trains to murals to canvas.”
“James ‘Sexer’ Rodriguez’s work is brilliant,” says CB Gallery Owner/Director, Christopher Brescia. “I’ve always loved Graffiti art and “Sexer” is a legend in NYC” Adding, “I remember clearly in 1980’s NYC the “Sexer” tag all over the subways and thinking ‘Wow’ this guy is prolific, never dreaming I would meet him years later” Describing Rodriguez’s work Brescia says, “This body of work is colorful and charming and all around fantastic and I’m completely floored that the guy whose work I saw all over the city during my formative years actually agreed to come to Katonah – What an honor!”
“Metamorphosis Now” have an Artists reception on Saturday July 23 from 5-8pm to coincide with the Katonah Artwalk.

About CB Gallery
Named 2019’s Best New Art Gallery in Westchester Magazine, Christopher Brescia opened the CB Gallery space in January 2019 in the charming downtown of Katonah, NY. The mission of the gallery is to offer Westchester and Connecticut residents as well as visitors and week-enders living in the community, something new and different in terms of contemporary artwork unlike anything else being offered in the area by showcasing emerging, established and under recognized Artists. All Artist exhibitions feature paintings, photography, drawings, and sculpture depending on the show.
Brescia believes art truly enhances your living space and gives a home life, personality and soul and that just because you have a traditional house, does not mean you have to own traditional artwork! In addition, CB Gallery offers in-home art consultation appointments to evaluate your current collection and make recommendations on existing and new art purchases.
