Indian Institute of Advanced Study
The Indian Institute of Advanced Study is a research institution that was originally built as a residence to Lord Dufferin (1888-1884), the viceroy of India. This learning centre is constructed in Indo-Gothic architecture and is located on Observatory Hill (one of seven hills in Shimla). It was formerly known as the Viceregal lodge. After independence, it was renamed Rashtrapati Nivas and became a hub for studying Indian culture, religion, and humanities. It is decorated with beautiful Scottish architecture.
