THE GYM of Armonk Supports American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Walk in October

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and THE GYM of Armonk will be Thinking Pink! This year, THE GYM will be joining two-time breast cancer survivor and long-time member, Sue Harmon, in supporting the American Cancer Society as it commemorates its 100th year, and offering special group fitness classes during the month of October. Proceeds from the THINK PINK classes at THE GYM will benefit The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation, uniting nearly 300 communities and volunteers – one million strong – to help finish the fight against the disease. Furthermore, Escape Spa and Wellness will be donating $5.00 to Sue Harmon’s team for any service purchased at the spa during the month of October, and ProClinix Sports Physical Therapy and Chiropractic Wellness, PLLC will be offering complimentary body assessments as well.

Harmon is a two-time breast cancer survivor who was diagnosed at age 32, and again at 42. Now, 15 years and five years out from each diagnosis, she works to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society. Harmon has been the #2 individual fundraiser in the nation for the ACS over those 15 years and has worked tirelessly towards their mission in raising awareness, supporting education, providing patient services and supporting advocacy. Harmon has also served on the ACS’s Board of Advisors. Also a long-time friend of Lisa Gagliardi, Group Fitness Director at THE GYM of Armonk, the connection between the two is clear, and THE GYM is looking forward to doing all it can in support of their comrade.

“I am honored that THE GYM is making the ACS and the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event their charity this October!” Harmon said. “The premier event for Strides takes place at Manhattanville College on October 20, 2013. This event attracts local and national media and over 15,000 participants. Last year, the Manhattanville Strides event raised over $1.25 million, and I am so pleased that THE GYM will make it an even bigger hit this year!”

Gagliardi further noted, “It’s amazing how many cancer survivors attend our gym and classes. We have supported other charities in the past including Make-A-Wish, Wounded Warrior and others, but this year the connection with Sue [Harmon] and ACS hits even closer to home. We will all be working to support this important cause that has connected many fellow cancer survivors that work out with us here regularly.”

Group fitness classes and complimentary body assessments added to the schedule throughout October in support of the ACS include the following, and DJ Catch1 will be dropping his beats at all classes (except for the Zumba Party on the 26th).
