Buena Vista Social Club founder and bandleader Juan de Marcos is the man responsible for their best selling recordings. His 14 piece big band The Afro-Cuban All Stars is one of the best-known and most successful Cuban orchestras performing today. The All Stars ensemble spans three generations of musicians, and the full range of Cuban musical styles. The initial Buena Vista Social Club recording put together by De Marcos and Ry Cooder was a Grammy-winning international bestseller, made into an Oscar-nominated film by German director Wim Wenders. The project lead to the explosion of global interest in traditional Cuban music and reintroduced a whole new generation to Cuban Son, Rumba, Bolero, and Canción.
