Physical activity is one of the best ways for you to release endorphins. When you are low in mood, you may be tempted to stop doing the things that you love. This is understandable, but you need to stop yourself from doing this. Instead, make the effort to get out more. It may be that you go on a jog around your local park, or that you go on a walk in the countryside. Hitting the gym is great if you have the motivation for it, as it can help to get the blood pumping. If your gym membership usually ends up going to waste because you don’t go as often as you should, then one thing you can do here is to ask a friend to sign up with you. Either way, if you can take the time to be creative, this will help you to engross yourself in a positive activity.

Asking for help can be difficult, especially if you’re a very proud person. If you want to help yourself here, then you need to start by looking at how you act when you’re overwhelmed. Do you shut down? Do you stop participating in enjoyable activities? Maybe you let yourself go a little and just don’t focus on eating as well as you could. Either way, by knowing the signs that you’re not coping well, you can then ask for help before things get too bad. Remember that friends and family are usually there to support you, and sometimes all you have to do is ask for a helping hand. By focusing on the positives, you can drown out negative self-talk, which can help you a lot. If you haven’t done this already, then keep a gratitude journal. You can then write in it every night before you go to bed. Take the time to write down what you have achieved in the day and anything you are grateful for. It may be that you are grateful for the fact that you have a well-paying job, or that the flowers on the kitchen windowsill have finally opened up. By taking note of the little things that are working in your favor, you can then stop the more significant issues in your life from feeling overwhelming.

Be Productive and Do Something that Makes you Feel Good

Sometimes it’s easy to feel bogged down by endless piles of laundry or even pots that need to be washed. Sure, getting jobs like this done is always good, but at the same time, you need to do things that make you feel productive as well. It may be that you take half an hour out of the day to garden and plant some new flowers, or that you finally assemble the chest of drawers that you’ve had sitting around for months on end.
