The two things that people notice when they meet a new person are their eyes and their hair. Vibrant and lustrous hair is one of the most powerful indicators of attractiveness. Unfortunately, all of us are not born with naturally gorgeous hair. However, with a little attention to your diet, you can make a significant difference to the health of your hair. Here are the top 5 foods that can give you shiny and bouncy hair.

1. Dark Leafy Green Vegetables

Leafy greens like spinach, chards, and collard greens are among nature’s best sources for vitamins A and C, along with iron and calcium. All of these are nutrients that your hair needs to be strong and healthy. In addition, they are rich sources of fiber, which keeps your system free from toxic build-up and helps direct vitality to where it is needed most. Try and include dark leafy green vegetables in your daily diet. Easy ways to do this are by tossing them into salads, soups, wraps and sandwiches. You can also stir fry them or steam them to add variety to your leafy green intake.

2. Beans

Legumes or beans of all sorts make for excellent hair food, since they contain those nutrients that can battle brittle hair, along with the proteins and minerals needed to aid hair growth. Kidney beans, fava beans and broad beans are rich in iron and zinc and also contain biotin, an essential ingredient for good skin and hair. The legume family also includes peas and the more common lentils which work in the same way. You may want to include up to three cups of beans or lentils in your weekly diet plan to get maximum benefit. Hummus, bean salads, and dips are some easy and tasty ways of including beans in your regular menu.

3. Nuts

Two of the key ingredients that contribute to hair health are selenium and zinc. These minerals can be found in abundance in nuts of all sorts. Most nuts are also good sources for certain types of omega-3 fatty acids that keep your hair soft and pliable. Peanuts, cashews, walnuts, almonds, and pecan are not only great hair food but also help with preserving memory and youthful appearance. The easiest way to add nuts to your daily diet is to have them by themselves. Some nuts lend themselves to sprouting, while others can be ground and blend in well with most cooking techniques. Nuts can make for great toppings for salads, main courses, and desserts.

4. Whole Grains

Whole grains are not only great energy booster but also essential for good hair health. They contain plentiful amounts of zinc and iron, in addition to several B vitamins. Like leafy greens, they also pack in good doses of fiber, keeping your body in peak form to ensure good hair health. You can get the required amounts of whole grain by switching to multi-grain bread, replacing processed flour with whole wheat flour, and by including brown rice in your daily diet. In addition, you can explore the entire range of whole grains that are not commonly included in your daily cuisine, such as quinoa, millet, barley and buckwheat.

5. Dairy

Most people are unaware of the amazing hair-health powers of dairy products. Milk, cheese, and yogurt, apart from the calcium punch they pack, also bring you the goodness of whey and casein, two essential protein sources for hair growth. Like whole grain products, these can be an excellent snack, especially if you choose the low fat variants. They also can be used to add greater depth to your regular cooking.

Experiment with these top five foods for healthy hair, try out new and exciting recipes with these ingredients, and mix and match them into your own culinary creations. Before you know it, people around you will notice a difference in the quality of your hair and start complimenting you for it.
