If you are well-read, you know that John Steinbeck wrote 27 books and earned the Nobel Prize. But did you know that he lived in Sag Harbor, Long Island, and hung out at Baron’s Cove (along with Kurt Vonnegut, Truman Capote, Paul Newman, Art Garfunkel and George Plimpton, etc.) and that his favorite dish was pork Posole and his favorite drink was the Jack Rose (pure alchemy)?

Before you Google what Posole and a Jack Rose are (unless you’re Jeopardy smart and already know) check out the fact that you can experience them yourself. Baron’s Cove is celebrating Steinbeck’s 115th birthday on February 27 in a rather intriguing way. Guests who show a library card (not a AAA card or AMEX Platinum card) during the month of February not only receive a special room rate of $115, but also two free Jack Rose cocktails and, yes, there will be pork Posole available in the dining room during the month of February.

If you stay on Sunday, Feb. 26, you get to stay free on Monday, Feb. 27, Steinbeck’s actual birthday. And because we all love “Travels with Charley: In Search of America,” you can even bring your dog.

You can also just walk in and book this, but you need your library card…seriously.
