What You Need to be a Stylish Barre Babe

Ready to jump in on the barre movement but not sure what to wear or bring? We spoke with Fierce and Regal, a new collection of luxe activewear designed by decades-long barre enthusiasts to get the full scoop so you can be ready to tone and sculpt like a pro. Founder Margi Gad built Fierce and Regal to restore elegance to activewear, and her pieces truly flow seamlessly throughout the day from one activity to the next. Find out what her musts are when she heads to class.

The Outfit
Top: Barre is a full-body a full-body workout with lots of movement, so a comfortable top is a must. We also look for tops that are fitted so we can constantly monitor our form and make sure our abs are properly tucked. For the ultimate mark of sophistication and everything you need for full performance, try the Fierce and Regal One Shoulder in Slate. You’ll feel strong and confident, and the clean lines and neutral color are nothing short of elegant. Perfect for a ballet-inspired class!

Bottoms: With lots of squats, leg raises, and work at the barre, you’ll want a pair of leggings that offers proper coverage and full movement. Fierce and Regal’s Capri Legging in Black is a perfect staple piece that can be worn year-round and pairs well with everything in your wardrobe. For a slightly elevated look, try our Zippered Capri in Black. We tested tons of zippers looking for the perfect one that wouldn’t dig during our glute work on the floor, and this is it.
To and From: Even in the middle of the summer, we still like a little something to layer over our top during the warm-up and cool-down portions of class. Our Tunic in Platinum is extremely lightweight and breathable and drapes beautifully over your top of choice. Horizontal spaghetti straps across the back add a playful detail.

For your Feet! Socks are an essential part of the barre outfit (studios require them), but don’t be fooled into wearing any old athletic socks. Most studios sell their own branded socks with rubber grips to help eliminate slipping; however, we are obsessed with Reebok’s Barre Slippers which we find are not only more flattering to the leg than socks but also offer an even better grip so positions like Chair are ever so slightly more doable!
The Accessories
Though you will barely sweat during a barre class, your body is still working hard, and it’s important to stay hydrated. We always keep a bottle of water by our side and love the Bkr Spiked Water Bottle in Tutu – so appropriately named!

Given that barre is light and low-impact, we tend to wear all of our jewelry to class without any issue. We recently discovered a fabulous jewelry designer who specializes in custom wrap bracelets with semi-precious stones and non-irritating metals for those with skin sensitivities.
