1. The incredible lemon

The lemons are one of your strongest allies in a war against dirt, hard stains, grease – you name it. This is due to the strong acid the lemons and other citrus fruits contain – the same acid that makes your face frown when you taste it will make you smile as you watch how lemon destroys all kinds of cleaning nightmares. So, where and when to use the magnificent lemon? Well, basically everywhere and all the time. You may use the used ones, finish making your lemonade and the remains will be enough to aid you in cleaning. You can use them to make your bathroom shiny once again, to make your floors clean, even to deodorize and clean your microwave. Simply cut a lemon in half, sprinkle it with some kosher salt and then scrub the microwave interior with it. When you’re finished, the microwave will smell pleasant due to the scent of the lemon and the acid in it. Now, this is just one example of the lemon usage in cleaning – feel free to use it in all the rooms of your house, you won’t make a mistake. Experiment!

2. Vinegar – your home’s MVP

Vinegar is another unconventional cleaner – too baclip_image004d since it’s awesome in all kinds of cleaning endeavors. From refreshing your rooms to destroying hard stains, vinegar is strong all-round. Once again, the acid it contains does the job. Clogged drain? Vinegar nails it in combination with the baking soda. Smoke odor? Simply place one or more bowls about three-quarters full of vinegar (both white vinegar and apple cider vinegar will do the job) in the room where the scent is strongest. You can even clean your PC and other office gear with vinegar – the more you take care of these and keep them dust-free the longer they will live. For this, just mix equal parts white vinegar and water, dampen a clean cloth in the solution, squeeze it out as hard as you can and start wiping. To reach the tight spaces (like those around the keys of your keyboard), try using cotton swabs. For the most difficult cleaning challenges, try combining vinegar with the baking soda. These two are marvelous!

3. Vodka is not just for drinking

You may think that vodka is just a party-starter, but prepare yourself to be surprised! You know the alcohol is used as a disinfectant, so the vodka is a suitable cleaning candidate, too. Vodka can be used to clean your mattress – the one that you often overlook, a habit you should consider changing. The procedure is quite simple, pour the vodka into a spray bottle, distribute it across the mattress evenly and leave it to air-dry. Don’t spray the mattress heavily, so you don’t saturate it and make it impossible for it to dry. That’s it, cheers!

4. Remove the plastic from your oven

It happens. You forget that you left some plastic containers in the oven, turned it on and… Seems like a nightmare, right? Well, it doesn’t have to be. You can undo this mistake by using this simple trick – first, heat the oven to the lowest temperature. For the most ovens, that would be some 200 degrees. The plastic will become pliable and you will be at last be able to scrape it off. Wasn’t that hard, right?

5. Baking soda for just about everything

Sodium bicarbonate, or commonly referred to as baking soda, is mostly used in cooking – especially baking (obviously). But, the hidden magic of the baking soda reveals itself when you use it in cleaning. A foul-smelling fridge? Baking soda will absorb those strong food odors. Those awful, greasy dishes and pans? Power-up your detergent with baking soda. Examples of baking soda usage in cleaning are numerous. You can even use to clean a clogged drain with the baking soda. Simply pour 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain, follow it by 1/2 cup of vinegar (like we said, the combination of these two is incredible). Cover it with a wet cloth, wait for some 5 minutes and then flush wish hot mater. Your drain breathes once again! Bonus: the drain has been deodorized, too.

6. Pillowcase reborn

You’re going to need your step ladder for this one. Also, a quite fast one. First, find an old pillowcase, the one you aren’t going to use again. Climb that ladder, hold the pillowcase over one fan blade at a time and simply wipe it backward. This way you will remove all the grime and dust and trap it inside the pillowcase. It will prevent the dust from falling to the ground or into your eyes. This also saves time – you won’t need to swipe your floor afterward. Good job!

That’s it for now, but don’t stop there! Cleaning can and should be way more creative and interesting than it is for you now – be smart and inventive about it and soon you will find yourself having a great time while cleaning, effort-free!
