EQUINOX INSTRUCTORS SHARE TOP HOLIDAY FITNESS TIPS AND THE

“DO-ANYWHERE WORKOUT”

This holiday season, Equinox Instructors from Scarsdale, Mamaroneck, Greenwich and Darien are sharing their top holiday fitness tips to keep you in shape. Here are their top 5 tips for staying motivated and on track with your fitness routine throughout the upcoming holiday season:

WRITE IT DOWN

Set goals and stay focused. It is easy to get sidetracked and find excuses because “it’s a holiday.”  “Fitness is a lifestyle commitment, not a seasonal one,” says Equinox Darien Instructor Marcia Garcia.

Equinox Mamaroneck Instructor Penny Love Hoff recommends writing down goals on the fridge and keeping a food journal. “Be sure to keep your goals SMART (Specific, Measurable,  Accountable, Realistic and Trackable.)” Hoff’s holiday fitness motto: “You bite it, you write it!” Keep a holiday “you’ll” log where you write down mini-rewards when you complete a fitness goal.

SET GROUP GOALS

If you are having trouble working out during the holidaysInstructor Penny Love Hoff suggests setting group goals. Gather some friends and go for a bike ride and then you will be obligated to go. “During the holidays, maintaining is like losing weight- we have to really stick with our workouts no matter what,” says Hoff.

MAKE A COMMITMENT

Did you know that 5 minutes of eating could take 5 hours of exercise to burn off? Make a commitment to your fitness goals before the holidays even start. “When it’s a lifestyle, it doesn’t matter what time of year it is,” says Equinox Greenwich Instructor Giovanni Roselli.

EAT CLEAN

One of the best ways to recover after the holidays is to do a post holiday cleanse. But before cleansing, make sure you are eating clean! Equinox Scarsdale Instructor Becky Molloy says to eat real food and go for the green. “If it’s from a box or wrapped in plastic, it’s not worth ingesting,” says Molloy.

LIMIT ALCOHOL

Remember to control your alcohol intake if you are trying to stay fit. Alcohol lowers inhibitions and you tend to make poor eating choices after that 2nd glass of wine! “You will feel so much more energized and ready to go if you only have a drink or two at a holiday party,” says Equinox Scarsdale Instructor Webb Travis.

WORKOUT ANYWHERE

With the onset of the holiday season come many personal concessions, but missed workouts do not have to be one. Whether you’re on the road trapped in a hotel room or simply pressed for time between meetings and shopping trips, this quick and effective do-anywhere session (it’s just 16 minutes and change and doesn’t require a single piece of equipment) will fit perfectly into even the most aggressive schedules.

The magic is in the movement “stack”:

Do move 1 for 30 seconds; rest for 30 seconds
Do moves 1 and 2 for 30 seconds each; rest for 30 seconds
Do moves 1, 2 and 3 for 30 seconds each; rest for 30 seconds
Do moves 1, 2, 3 and 4 for 30 seconds each; rest for 30 seconds
Do moves 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 for 30 seconds each; rest for 30 seconds
Do moves 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 for 30 seconds each; rest for 30 seconds

Then repeat the stack one more time.
