Single? You’re in good company
Posted by StacySingle? You’re in good company. In fact, there’s an annual celebration that I bet you didn’t know about: This week (Sept 16-22) is “National Unmarried and Single Americans Week.” Although you’re unlikely to find a Hallmark card for it, it’s celebrated the 3rd week of September every year since 1980.
Local filmmakers explore the growth of singlehood
Why are there so many unmarried people today? Demographics are changing and so is the nature of modern relationships. Co-produced by Westchester residents, Richard Atkinson and Jane Scandurra, “Single” is an independent documentary film that explores the growth of the unmarried population and the new challenges in finding and maintaining a lasting relationship in today’s crazy world. The game has dramatically changed.
Here are some eye opening numbers from the US Census Bureau (2011):
102 million: Number of adults (over 18) in the US who are not married. That’s 44% of all adults in the U.S.
33 million: Number of people who lived alone. They comprised 28% of all households, up from just 17% in 1970.
89: Number of unmarried men (over 18) for every 100 unmarried women in the U.S.
“Single” is available for purchase or rent on DVD and via Video on Demand. Visit website for more details: http://amzn.to/NMrp4E
