Random Act of O

Posted by Stacy
Did someone nab your parking spot? Was someone rude to you at Costco? Nowadays who doesn’t wish for a kinder world? Well, I just heard about a great project on which the divine Ms Oprah Winfrey’s magazine is partnering with the amazing Zappos.com and a social good company, Daily Feats: “Random Acts of O.” The program — which launched in the July issue of the magazine– is all
about spreading kindness and make the world a better place! How cool is that?

For the next six months, readers will be invited to participate in monthly challenges based on issues covered in the magazine, and then encouraged track those good deeds online. “Random Acts of O” will feature a new challenge each month, with a custom app tracking participants’ progress as they build points towards rewards from O Magazine and Zappos.com along the way – everything from gift cards to –wait for it — select items on O’s coveted list of “Favorite Things.” But, it won’t just live online: O
Magazine and Zappos.com will be coming to a town near you, bringing the experiences to life with real-world stunts and surprises and rewards for doing good.

First up: A ‘Pledge to Read’ tied to the recently re-launched Oprah Book Club. People click on the O Facebook page tab and promise to read at least one of the books on the Club’s list (YEAH!! Oprah’s book club is back!). If you pledge, you’ll not just find a fantastic beach (or heaven forbid – rainy day) read (I personally pledged to read Wild, FYI!), fifty participants will be
chosen at random to win a tote bag and all the books in the collection.  And, amazingly – once 50,000 pledges to read are logged, a donation will be made to Teach for America to ensure that all children get the excellent education they deserve. A win-win for sure!

So how can you get involved? Simply go to O Magazine’s Random Acts of O Facebook page and pledge to read one of the books on O Magazine’s Summer Reading List. And stay tuned for more challenges and opportunities to win! http://www.facebook.com/oprahmagazine/app_129840217152619
