Two hours of Personal Styling Consultation with Barbra Horowitz
Posted by StacyCheck out my friend Barbra Horowitz on Gilt City
Are you feeling awkward, rather clumsy, in your closet right now? One day it’s gorgeous-the next it’s not. Trying to get dressed in May’s whatever weather? Who’s feeling like they’ve beached themselves and could beyond benefit from a sun-kissed week in the Hamptons?
I am not excluded from the above, and in fact, I can’t decide if I hate my wardrobe or the confusion of who I should be this Summer vs. last. When I reach for what I loved last year I am all of a sudden “all out of love.” Sound familiar?
For the past few Summer season’s I joke that I am a hooker to a nude shoe. I thought I had finally perfected for most of you (and myself) the perfect Summer sexy slim shoe strategy: Nuding it up creates longer leaner and less cankles. Those of you with “kill me now” supermodel legs? In my nude shoes, I swear – next life! Your legs are now mine.
Relevance is the number one reason I am a stylist.
Clothing in and of itself is not an investment as once heavily touted by those selling you clothing-how you buy and when you sell your wardrobe is the investment. That’s why resale is a must in today’s economic and environmental climate.
Buy-Wear-Sell-Repeat. Sell to buy -Buy to sell! Feeling white and weighted down.Let’s talk everyone’s favorite fit-How to Summer Shoe Sale?
The 2 best times of year to shop resale for high end shoes are after Christmas (boot wardrobe builder) and after Memorial day. (sexy summer sandals are far too expensive at retail and there are still 3 months to wear them after the holiday) Remember my motto, if it isn’t on sale-it isn’t on you.
What should you be looking for in this Summer’s sales?
Color is exploding this Summer. Pick a color palette that you love and commit to it all Summer. Reds-corals and berries go very well together. Then accent with neutrals/whites and a pop of turquoise-green or yellow. Be consistent in your color choices. We are seeing a nod to matching colors together, but this does not mean all black or all white with some colored accessories Color needs to take place in your wardrobe AND a few of your accessories.
Think sandals: kitten heels, wedges, and platform heels that have color blocking mixed with either nude or black. You will still see a lot of nude and flesh tones mixed within the color trend. Nude warms up bright colors, which will also be a big staple this season, and black cools them off. You can wear any color, if you apply cooling and warming in the way I just described.
Look for interesting menswear inspired cut out sandals and heels. Again punch the color even if you are scared. You can’t continue to evolve, if you aren’t uncomfortable. Pick one shoe style you would never, ever, EVER pick. I swear, after a few moments of fretting…and many compliments later…the “you would never pick” will become your new classic. I promise.
And please put down the Christian Louboutin patent leather pump in nude and black that you already have at home…unless, of course, it’s in royal blue or acid green leather.
If you are a size 5 , 6 7 8 or 9 including half sizes (except for 6.5) your shoe size is not as popular as it once was. Great news for your wallet. Let this first round of sales pass and wait till end of June when prices get slashed 50 to even 70% off. Your only exception: if it’s an obscure brand that is not in heavy production or an exclusive to that specific store. Buy those ASAP.
If you are a size 6.5 or size 10, sorry, but you need to shop this first round of sales! Your size is all over Ebay, ironically, where you need to begin the hunt. Re-seller’s snap up all the hottest styles in this first round along with the die hard early shoppers who shop as much sale as they do retail. Your size is apt to be gone by the end of June. Rather than miss out, less sale is better than no sale at all.
Called Hollywood’s Personal stylist by People magazine, Barbra Horowitz has been dressing men and women of all size’s, age’s and income’s since 2004. Looking to go down a size or two? Want to create your biggest career success while finding the love of your life? What if you’ve got it all? Sometimes the biggest connection is the one you make within your own sense of style. Knowing when to buy/how to wear and when to sell has Horowitz’s clients spending less, wearing more and looking completely ageless.
